The advantage of a straightforward UBI over NIT is that voters are selfish and stupid. If everyone gets a check, they are far more likely to support maintaining and increasing the benefit. It also removes the stigma that would be present for those receiving NIT payments.

Really though, the level of imperialism apologizing I’ve seen has been pretty humorous on this platform. Like people will say with a straight face that we need to support our client state Israel to secure our regional interests.

Is this being federated from some platform other than Lemmy? Because I have literally never seen someone support that position here.

This isn't a "perverse incentive" -- the government explicitly and directly encourages this behavior.

This saying is a pet peeve of mine, because it's so contrary to the actual meaning of "eye for an eye", which is a prohibition against escalation. Like in this case the guy injured someone's neck and wrist, so the maximum punishment would be injuring his neck and wrist, not killing him. That's not to say "eye for an eye" is an ideal justice system, just that it is opposed to wanton revenge and violence.

This would also have to pass the House, which it would not. I agree with Bernie's statement and respect his choice to put the resolution forth on principle. I do not respect the article author or commentors who are either ignorant of basic U.S. civics, or choosing to be deliberately deceptive in order to place blame solely on Democrats.

1. The article argues campaigning with Liz Cheney seems to have no effect. Calling it an "electoral fiasco," especially in the headline, clearly implies that it was detrimental in a significant way.
2. The evidence that the rallies were ineffective is comparing Harris's results against Biden's. This is terrible analysis. This should be at least a difference-in-difference comparison (the difference in the change vs Biden, using similar counties that were/weren't visited). Useful evidence that their analysis actually works would be applying it to strategies they think were positive, and showing the relative improvement there.

But since the data is "cobbled together" from other sources, then it's by definition secondary research (and should list those sources).

Also, he was suspended in July 2021, so the consequences were pretty quick, and only the final nail in the coffin was delayed.
