I gotta say, I really hate it when people say this statement.
That’s a pithy saying, but the cloud is a totally different model than a “computer”.
The concept of “cloud” (generally) has its own way of interacting with tooling, it’s got a huge economy of scale that brings resiliency, a ton of interconnected services, etc. There’s more to it than just computers.
That’s like saying “the Highway doesn’t exist, it’s just someone else’s driveway.”—yeah, but there’s more to it than just streets.
I think it had potential if they wrote the ending better. Geordi is a great character and they could have blessed him with a character arc.
In my rewrite, Brahms rejects him and leaves the ship, he feels regret, then has a coming to his senses talk with Guinan and Riker in 10 Forward. Something about consent and reality vs. holodeck people.
Next time Geordi and Brahms meet in a later episode, it could have been awkward and he could have said something like, “I learned a lot about relationships and what’s real.” Then he could be not creepy after that episode.
Instead we have this weird ending and then he’s married to her in All Good Things… BLEH
That sounds like an interesting podcast. Too bad it’s locked behind Audible plus or whatever it’s called…
