LJ, the dev of Sync, makes a living off it. It's not a side project like most Lemmy apps are for their devs. This means that yes, it's monetized, but also, it's one of the most polished and frequently updated apps.

How is Lemmy an "anticapitalist project". I know the devs political orientation, but tech is tech, not really politically aligned by itself.
Besides, if it were anticapitalist, they should not have used the GPLv3 as their license, as it explicitly allows third parties to profit off the project.

He went MIA when people hated v20, apparently he was a bit burnt out already and the response to the update was the tipping point. But LJ does make a living out of Sync.

Value is subjective, but I do consider worth it to fund LJ's work on the app.
He has been working on Sync for years full time, which is why Sync was/is one of the most polished and frequently updated apps out there. If there's a small price to pay for it, so be it, the guy has to eat.

Crispr is not quite ready for prime time, but it's promising.

Will they finally get a taste of their own medicine? I somehow doubt it, but the symbolism is still nice.

The lifetime purchase to remove ads is up. It's a bit pricey but I can understand why, Lemmy has a smaller userbase. Totally worth it.

The years of polish from the Reddit app are definitely a boon.

I tried and it crashed my app, had to wipe it and start from scratch. All I really cared about was my theme, so I just manually copied that back.

The only thing holding me back is VR, I have a Quest 2 and the PC drivers are only for Windows.

They already stated they want to have SteamOS 3.0 available for everyone to download and install on any machine.
