  • I always thought it was like an abbreviation for "for real"

  • It is a consequence of how the networks were physically built when providers thought that cable and download speeds were all anyone needed; it's not just a software switch they can flip if they wanted to.

This is true of so much of our infrastructure in the US.

Not bandwidth speeds specifically but just aging infrastructure that was built out long ago and not properly maintained and/or updated over time

  • It was apparently profitable enough they are making a sequel

  • What about when they buy a new printer and need drivers.

Printers have "just worked" on Linux for longer than Windows has provided drivers through Windows Update. What printer do you have that requires special drivers in Linux?

  • Linux is a problem for people who come from windows and need more than basics but are not tech savvy enough to get their hands dirty.

Spot-on. For people with minimal to no computer skills in the first place Linux will serve them well.

The one who well struggle the most ironically are Windows "Power users" and other intermediate/advanced users who don't have the equivalent skill already in Linux or time/willingness to learn Linux systems.

  • I have a fairly "bleeding edge" laptop with an RTX3000 series GPU and an AMD CPU/APU and I have been surprised at how well it runs on Linux.

Not only is my battery life consistently better but it handles the GPU switching flawlessly and performance in games is also consistently noticeably better than what I experienced running Windows on the same hardware.

Even in just the last year or two the advancements in Linux support have been downright incredible! (At least in my personal experience)

Of course I'm using Nvidia's proprietary drivers, but I was in Windows too and my experience has only improved by switching to Linux.

  • Definitely Immich.

There's a lot of these kinds of services, hosted or self-hosted that are labeled as a "Google Photos replacement"

But very few of said services have features like face matching and object recognition alongside automatic backups.

IMO it's not a legitimate replacement for Google Photos without those features and Immich really delivers on that without compromising your privacy.

  • "Several cases?" Lol

Virtually every bill that passes in Congress contains riders and typically only passes because of those riders.

  • After they abandoned the multiplayer cause they coudnt give it money printing shark cards?

At least the multiplayer got attention, the single-player game never got anything after the initial release.

  • Listen if past me couldn't keep up that's on them.

We're all probably better for it.

I'm way cooler than that guy.

  • That's why I said "if it's properly following the standard"

Those devices that Benson tested that failed were not properly following the standard.

  • So if you worked at a hotel or airport or a coffee shop or something and you saw someone shortly before sunrise you would say "Good night" not "Good morning"?

  • Best way to avoid hanging chads
