  • That's honestly fine. Everybody deserves fair representation.

If we'd had PR a decade ago and the disenfranchised had had a voice in parliament then perhaps we never would have been dragged out of the EU.

  • Boost has user tagging as well.

Only issue is the tag and report dialogs look exactly alike and multiple times I've unknowingly clicked report in error. I'm kinda surprised I never got criticised for abusing the report function when all I've written is "pro-russia" or "idiot"

  • "Mirror, signal, manoeuvre" is what we're taught in the UK. So according to our highway code you're acting correctly, but obvs that may be different elsewhere.

Basically you only signal after you've confirmed there is space and that it is safe to do so, therefore the time between indicating and actually acting is minimal.

The main problem you see is some people drive aggressively and use signalling as a demand that others make space for them, move out of their way etc. That's not how it's meant to work.

  • Alan Rickman was the absolute perfect casting for Snape. Nobody else could have brought him to life so well and so true to the books.

Of the entire film cast I think everyone could have been replaced except for Snape, therefore it does make sense to be bold and try something different in his casting for the new show.

  • Indeed.

For many of us Harry Potter was a significant part of our childhoods. It's a great story with a satisfying ending. There was incredible excitement for each book, and the films weren't bad either.

The world is already miserable enough I'm not willing to expunge something that has brought me joy.

We absolutely should denounce JK Rowling and her abhorrent statements. I have no idea why people continue to give her a platform. She's one of the names on my filter list because I refuse to let her vile thoughts be given any of my attention.

  • It's also worth noting that it wouldn't just be china profiting financially. It would create a dependence on china for an essential material.

Given how rocky International relationships are at present we need to consider how we would manufacture weapons and vehicles should we find ourselves in a major conflict.

If Europe is at war with russia it's unlikely china would willingly provide the steel we need.

  • What I read elsewhere that made a lot more sense is the Chinese owners, Jingye, intended to turn off the furnaces in a way that it would effectively never be possible to use them again without incurring a lot of time and extraordinary cost.

In doing so Britain would have no choice but to purchase steel from China.

Therefore even if it's going to be expensive for the government to maintain in the long term it will be a better deal for Britain than letting china monopolise an essential material.

  • And it sounds like somebody on the kernel team reverse engineered the internals of bit keeper so they would have a clear understanding of precisely how it worked - but more importantly the ways that it didn't suit their workflow

  • Fireworks had so much potential as a web design app and they threw it away.

Illustrator and InDesign were too focused on print media and Photoshop could barely comprehend anything unless it was rasterized.

  • Police made six arrests of women attendees during the raid, on suspicion of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance, and a further five Youth Demand supporters at other locations, mostly their homes, on Friday. In total the police conducted 12 house raids within 20 hours.

suspicion of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance

That has to be the most dystopian crime possible.

In April 2024, in protests at Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer’s support for Israel’s genocide, Youth Demand members laid children’s shoes and hung a banner that said “Starmer stop the killing”

Ah, now it makes more sense. Labour don't appreciate their support for a genocidal regime being highlighted.
