  • Not easily, honestly.

WordPress on its own is very bare bones, you're almost certainly going to want to install plugins, which by default can only be done from the builtin connection to WP servers.

WP without plugins doesn't even have basic things like gallery light boxes. Honestly it seems deliberate, since the easiest way to get a lot of basic features that should be in core is to install the automattic(the company that owns wordpress) jetpack extension, that also installs a bunch of data harvesting connections to their proprietary SaaS.

  • It also doesn't seem to federate their own communities to lemmy.

(Unless I'm doing it wrong, !clubsall@clubsall.com should work right?)

  • SEO spam has been a problem for a long time, but AI has allowed it to be accelerated to a whole new level.

  • I still think defederation is the biggest hurdle. It would be a lot easier if you could just tell people it didn't matter what instance they join, they will be able to follow anyone.

Usually when I mention it people will talk about all the reasons defederation exists, but it doesn't change the fact that if a normal person has to start looking up what instance they can follow uncle ReaganLover69 on, they're probably going to stay on twitter.

  • What licence did it use before?

  • If you count Hel (one L) from Norse religion, older than the bible.

the idea of the snake in the Garden of Eden as having given free will and wisdom to humanity can’t be that modern of a thought, even if it would have been heretical.

In Gnosticism, the snake is sometimes identified with Jesus, while the god of the old testament is the demiurge. You're correct in that the catholic church really didn't like that.

  • Dai-guard, a somewhat obscure mecha anime. It's a comedy about what would realistically happen if you had a giant mecha fighting monsters from another dimension: bureaucracy, lawsuits, government interference, and physics.

  • If the washing machine isn't an option, dry cleaners.

  • Huawei contribute quite a bit to the linux kernel, it's a pretty international effort.

Just the first statistics I could find showed they contributed more changesets than any other organisation https://lwn.net/Articles/915435/

  • When most ocean plastic comes from nets, it's hard to disagree.

Honestly the obsession with single use plastic seems like a distraction. Every piece of plastic in landfill is oil that isn't burnt.

  • Alex Jones is a false flag crisis actor who's job is to distract people from the real conspiracies.

  • The sad thing is, facial recognition glasses would be really useful to people like me with prosopagnosia (face blindness), but I would only want them if the processing is done locally on device.

  • I feel like google glass was more bad timing, people weren't as used to everyone and their dog carrying a camera all the time back then.

  • I really didn't expect this when I used them 15 years ago.

  • If you somehow killed him he would be replaced by someone who would be in a position of having to prove they were strong enough for the position.
