The confusion is between communism as an economic system and communism (more properly, Marxism-Leninism) as a political system.

Economically communism is a classless, stateless, society.

Most Marxist-Leninist states take the position that transitioning to that instantly is impossible, and you need to build the material conditions for it by transitioning through capitalism (be that state capitalism or some other form) to socialism to communism. The Communist Party of China for instance has a goal of achieving socialism by 2050.

That's a very simplified version anyway, and some (Trotskyists mostly) disagree that a transition period is necessary.

Different chemistries produce different voltages per cell. Alkaline produces 1.5v, NiMH produces 1.2v, Li-Ion produces 3.6v. These are averages, the actual voltage varies over the current charge level of the cell. This variation in voltage is how the low battery alarm actually works, although Alkaline cells produce 1.5v initially, once they are nearly empty they are producing 1.1-1.2v. Your thermostats will likely work fine on NiMH batteries, if you can live with them continually complaining about the batteries being low.

There are, or at least were, rechargeable alkaline batteries, but they don't last many cycles.

The 1.5v Li-Ions have a tiny circuit board on them that regulates the voltage down to 1.5v, which takes up space so the capacity is reduced. You could do that with NiMH, but it would have less capacity than the Li-Ion version, so there's little point.

I do wonder how many of the pills etc were effectively fake, radium was expensive, so a lot may have used homeopathic amounts. A lot of cosmetics today still do that, add infinitesimally small amounts of the latest fashionable ingredient, so they can say it contains it.

Reading about the legal procedures in the salem witch trials is crazy. Most of the evidence was "spectral", basically people claiming to have seen the ghostly form of the accused. They aren't state owned, they're the largest private company in China (by number of employees), and have had plenty of issues with the authorities there.

Especially with how cities in the UK are effectively banning driving for anyone but the rich.

The closest I can think is someone who is ambidextrous but also dyspraxic.
