One form of harm does not excuse the other. We all have to make some effort on multiple fronts if we want the future to be brighter. Besides, it's easier to survive as a vegetarian than without technology in modern society.
For price per TB, modern tapes might still be a valid choice actually. But maybe not great for read/write performance. I guess that depends on how many tape drives you have on each end.
External communities are just searchable, subscribable and browsable from here. Sometimes you need to change a search filter or default view from Local to All.

I think 90% of the issues people are having are UX related and not a core issue with federation or decentralization.
While these sorts of practices are legal, consumers need to be educated.
