  • No copyright law seems dangerous to me,
why create content if you can just steal it,
and earn on the back of the original creator without consequences?

I think I'd rather see it updated instead.
E.g. To hold AI companies and users accountable.
So they need explicit approval of copyright holders before they're allowed to train upon / use their data.

  • Might be a split '.apk' file (aka '.apks'),
for which you can try SAI (Split APKs Installer, to backup + restore):
    https://f-droid.org/packages/com.aefyr.sai.fdroid/

Might be due to a check to see if the app was installed from the PlayStore,
for which you can try KingInstaller (Spoofs as PlayStore, does not work for split APKs, to restore):
    https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/com.example.kinginstaller

Might be due to custom licensing check,
then you'd need to decompile, reverse engineer and write a bypass.

  • Woah the lawsuit company that makes games on the side did a thing other then filing lawsuits?

Doesn't matter, I won't be spending any more money on Nintendouch products.

They ruined enough fan projects for me to start hating them.

And I have not even touched the subject of the calculated breaking point in the original Switch, better known as Joy-Cons.

  • Ahhh sad to hear, but thanks for your reply,
now I know that I can stop searching,
and start hoping for quick implementation of Wireguard config support for Netbird :)

  • I believe Briar currently is one of the best options out there, together with SimpleX.

However I lack usage experience with both.
Since no one I know makes use of them..

It was already hard enough to convince only a handful of my friends to start using Session and Matrix/Element (which are not the best options anymore), but I'm kinda doubtful about my success rate of making them switch once again..

My success with convincing people to use Telegram has been better though, since that's the most commonly known, but nearly no one wants to install an app they never heard off before, just to chat with only me :P

Also "convincing people" lately goes smth like this for me:

    • Do you have WhatsApp or Messenger so I can send you some pictures?
    • No I don't use apps that do not respect my privacy, but you can send em to me through SimpleX, Briar, Session, Matrix/Element, Telegram, Discord or email :P
    • Upon which most choose Telegram or Discord as their means to contact me, sadly no one had Briar/SimpleX yet.
  • *Don't Use Session,
if your threat profile includes government's spending +-100k to crack your encryption, since their encryption is not the best out there.

Which they likely won't for an average privacy conscious user, but they might for high ranking criminals.

It was a good read though,
I won't invite new people to Session due to it.

But the title is a little click-baity,
"Session's encryption is not the best",
would be a more honest title.

  • Lately these lyrics come to mind ever more often:

    White Americans, what?
    Nothing better to do.
Why don't you kick yourself out?
    You're an immigrant too.

Song: The White Stripes - Icky Thump

  • Shotdog x)

  • Yes we need them to survive,
    yes they're better than Google.

But no we're not being too negative/hard on them!

Lately Mozilla has been pulling a lot of anti-consumer yet pro shareholder shit.

AI is a perfect example of that,
unwanted by the majority of their community, yet still forced upon us by shareholders, for now through an optional addon, which appears to be a foot in the door, which can quickly grow into a baked in addon which ships with FireFox by default.

    Sources:

    They blatantly ignore their community,
and for that we're allowed to be angry with them.

  • Set up post filters,
block all posts with the words Elon and Trump in em.

Here's a guide for Eternity which I've written:
    https://discuss.tchncs.de/post/6091026

Won't get rid of all the Elon/Musk spam,
but I'd say about 90% which is already a huge improvement.

Also blocking the news communities does wonders for mental health.
They benefit financially from feeding negative content, since research pointed out that those articles generate more ad clicks, while they don't give a damn about what it does to your mental health.

  • Thank you, those are some interesting/good use cases indeed!

  • What do you use it for?
I've had it for a while,
    but ended up uninstalling it,
since I could not think of a good use case.

  • Oh did not know that, sad to hear.

They did remove traffic to the old Yuzu domains though, which now are in the hands of Nintendo, used to monitor which users use emulators.

Do you have other suggestions for promising successor forks?

  • To me this sadly is a clear sign that Bethesda has peeked.

They've re-released Skyrim a billion times, now they're re-releasing Oblivion, no news if The Elders Scrolls 6 development has even started yet, and Starfield is a hot mess.

Feels like they're milking out the last possible drops of profit out of their IPs before closing down...

  • There's 2 parts to this:

    • Android Auto app (on your phone)
    • Android Auto Head Unit software (in your car)

Both of which are currently proprietary,
and would need to be written as FOSS from the ground up by reverse engineering the above 2, which would be a huge undertaking.

Also flashing custom Head Unit software to your car will be very hard, is not well documented, and likely will void your warranty, giving low incentive for developers to even attempt it :/

The best you can do right now is aa4mg (Android Auto 4 MicroG),
which at least allows to replace the proprietary Google Play services with a privacy respecting FOSS alternative and Android Auto's dependencies with empty stub packages:
    https://github.com/sn-00-x/aa4mg

    Full disclosure,
    I helped with writing aa4mg :)

  • Do you like being spied on and having your data sold?
    => Windows or ChromeOS

Do you have too much money?
    => Mac

Do you have a decent set of working brains?
    => Linux

  • Been using VSCodium for a few years now, for loose file editing,
no complaints about it, imo it's what VSCode should be.
