  • Anyone who didn't expect BG3 to win Game of the Year has been under a rock since it launched O.o Anyone who expected Starfield to win Most Innovative Gameplay, are you offering divination services to the public?

Damn, I know some people are dead-set on insisting that Starfield isn't that bad but... innovative?? Really??? Most innovative?!?? Baffling!

  • Idunno if it's what you meant but this comment could read like "They took a dumpster fire, poured it into a septic tank, and then added something unpleasant" 😅 Seems Fallout 4 isn't much-loved, and at least in my mind NMS is never gonna escape the shitstorm it caused at launch (though even I've bought a copy by now) so... owch!

Either way, I fully agree that possibly the most despised-for-being-dull game of the year getting called "innovative" is asinine. Maybe it's sarcastic? The only other option that makes any sense is that a lot of people just voted for it because they knew the name and had no real opinion. Kinda gross if that's the case :-\

  • What'd Polygon do? Have I forgotten? Did I not know? Is it new? sighness Too much crap always going on.

  • I'd say Gentoo is kinda... grittier? It's less eager to help you out and be nice. Where Arch is like "Oh, you want Foo? Okay, here's Foo, along with Bar and Baz to go with it" Gentoo is like "'Kay, building Foo." Then you wonder why Foo doesn't do Baz-y things and how it's any good to anycritter without Bar, and it turns out those are compile-time options and you didn't set the USE flags to include them for Foo so it wasn't built with them. Your system never downloaded, built, or installed them at all because you didn't tell it to. It pretty well expects you to know what you want and what you need to do it >:3 ... that, and have a nice beefy CPU 😅 I tend to alternate between Arch and Gentoo every few years. Am currently using Arch (bytheway ;P) after switching from Gentoo for some comfy convenience but I kinda love both.

Funtoo is... I don't entirely remember what it was meant to be, compared to Gentoo 😅 I vaguely recall it was supposed to have some nice features but wanted me to do sensible things like stop using ancient GRUB so I just didn't get into it. May try that next.

As for BSDs, I've kinda wanted to run a BSD for a long time but none of them are what I actually want (despite my nonsensical eagerness to be and do weird wherever possible- er, I mean, despite how good and stable and cool they are!) so I just kinda poke one or two every few years, accomplish nothing, then give up. I do want to like them, though 😅

  • Is this the most wholesome commagazine?

No, but it's kinda funny and I'll think it may have one of the least bad communities until they stuff me into a skip and light its contents ablaze.

Edit: votes have been cast and the results show that this place is 2/4 dumpster and 1/2 decent.

  • Yaaaah, came here to something something RISC-V .^ One of these days I'll have a RISC-V system. I'll have no actual use for it but I'll love it stubbornly just because :D

Anyway I'm gonna be over here daydreaming about RISC-V taking over the world instead of ARM. Bwehehehehe.

    (Edited to fix my .^-face)

  • If you're having this much fun digging into distros, I have to recommend* Gentoo and Funtoo :3 I think you could have some fun with those too hehehehehehehehe

*(re-commend, not recco-mend! ... Now I wonder if "recommend" at some point commonly/ever sounded like "Riikka mend" 🤔)

  • Oh, it's weird ugly Haskell!

... I can write weird, ugly Haskell in Haskell, though.

  • If you have an account, just go to one of their channels one time. Twitch will never recommend anything else again.

...Okay, it will sometimes recommend other stuff but you're never gonna be free of "thirst"-related content. Also, https://www.twitch.tv/directory/category/pools-hot-tubs-and-beaches here's the category you want to avoid :P

  • Oh yeah, lots of them! So way back in ancient times we had... https://outer-planets.fandom.com/wiki/Planet_Packs 😅 The Ciro system is the one from the Galileo Planet Pack https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/topic/152136-ksp-1121-galileos-planet-pack-v166-23-sept-2021/ Aaand I loved it. There was a way to scale it up to RSS scale, which kinda trashed my system but I still tried to play it 😅

Smaller and simpler is definitely fun but I've got the bug where I always feel like I'm missing something if there aren't as many mods as possible installed 😹 I assume there are still system replacers available now... but suddenly it occurs to me that maybe that's stopped being a thing? Hard to imagine KSP losing an entire category of mods but I feel compelled to point out that I don't actually know these state of it these days :-\

  • I came here to say, now they can get back to exploring space instead of advertising games! 😅

  • I've just started another playthrough of Mass Effect: Andromeda! Took ages to get the mod manager and EA's app thing and Linux/Wine/??? all cooperating (or at least not fighting me effectively enough that I can't play the game :P ) but off I've gone!

Hmmmm, what else lately. Battlefield V, apparently. Bit of PlanetSide 2. Started SIC-1 (the single instruction set computer programming game) but haven't really been in a mood for it. Tried Stellaris again to see if Swayland changed the microstutters. It did not. Game looks horrifically complex now too, so meh. Tried again to find a new build that interested me in Path of Exile but no :-\ Uhhhhmmmm, touched Endless Space 2 a little, played some Helium Rain (which is free now! Very neat little space freelancer-to-empire kinda thing, like an itty bitty baby version of an X game). Almost went back to Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous which I love but an out-of-game sad and increasing memory-distance from my playthrough are making it harder to go back.

Oh, also logging into STO for the winter event and complaining about the Winter Wonderland. You'd think that being an ice princess I'd love the winter event but it's awful. You know a winter event is bad when I strongly prefer the summer event! Totally backward, makes no sense! Rar rar rar, et cetera!

Anyway, this has been my latelish-gamesy ramble. I hope somecritter has enjoyed or at least I won't get downvoted into Oblivion. Though at least if I do I can maybe meet some cool Daedra :3 (This post is being written directly after "waking up" (assuming I have, in fact, done so) and as such the thoughts represented within may or may not be my own, rational, intelligible, or representative of any official royal policy or belief)

  • Ooo, I played the Sea of Stars demo! That game looks pretty neat :3 I think it felt like it had way more to it, a sort of deeper love and care for the game than I'd expected. Good mention .

Good luck with MELE! Am kinda curious what's failing? Software/hardware/difficulty?

  • I need better hardware just so I can properly (for me) enjoy KSP v.v By which I mean like, RSS/RO though I prefer fictiony star systems (Ciro system <3 !!) :3 . Such a cool, fun thing, especially with lots of mods :3

  • super niche

    Imean... One would expect, no?!

    you have no choice

You're not even my mom! Nyeh-nyeh! :P (See, it's funny because it implies that dom > mom > rando ... but I'd never listen to Mom harharharharhar I should really have a nap.)

  • yay devil 😈

Edit: For those who don't use Arch bytheway, yay is an "AUR helper:" basically a frontend for our package manager that adds support for building packages from source.
