My theory is that there's TOO much for people to care.
Remember when we DIDN'T hear about what the president was doing MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY? If one of those presidents had decided to undermine democracy, it'd be a pretty big deal and we'd talk about nothing else for weeks.
But now, breaking news rolls out every hour or two, and it's just too much to absorb. People are tuning out because if they miss 3 controversies, there will be a fourth by the end of the day. Maybe they'll worry about that one.
I think it's a not racist theory, with borderline supporting details.
If a new regime doesn't match the existing culture, they will get resistance from the people.
Which could have been the case in Afghanistan, but I personally don't know. Another commented that their examples are not true, and even if that is the case, there could still be other examples of a culture clash that WERE happening that would cause the same result, but again, I don't know any more than what I hear from others.
So, I'm actually a big fan of digital. My disks don't get scratched, my tapes aren't lost under the bed, and I don't spill anything on my books.
That being said, I do feel the urge to collect things, and even though I'm not buying physical media, I see merch related to it and think "I should have that. I don't know what I'd do with it, but I should have it."
Fortunately, I'm too broke to act on these urges, but I totally understand them.
In the case of zombies, however I end up, I'll know it's because of what I did. Nowadays, it feels like I'm the only one who isn't involved in deciding my fate.
The math checks out. 🤷🏻♂️
