  • The following aren't necessarily answers to your question, but he also mentioned these, and they are way too funny to not share:

    The Hairy Ball theorem

    Cox Ring

    Tits Alternative

    Wiener Measure

The Cox-Zucker machine (although this was in the 70s and it's rumored that Cox did most of the work and chose his partner ONLY for the name. 😂)

  • My disclaimer: I don't know what any of this means, but it might give you a direction to start your research.

First thing he came up with is Number Theory, and how they've been working on that for centuries, but they never would have imagined that it would be the basis of modern encryption. Multiplying a HUGE prime number with any other numbers is incredibly easy, but factoring the result into those same numbers is near impossible (within reasonable time constraints.)

He said something about knot theory and bacterial proteins, but it was too far above my head to even try to relay how that's relevant.

  • I work with a guy who is a math whiz and loves to talk. Yesterday while I was invoicing clients, he was telling me how origami is much more effective for solving geometry than a compass and a straight edge.

    I'll ask him this question.

  • I think a lot of the hate is coming from people who don't understand Roblox. It's just this weird new thing that kids are playing. They said the same kind of things about my Mortal Kombat, D&D, and Magic:tG.

I certainly have my complaints on Roblox, mainly the concept of Robucks and how the community members design games to milk children for their birthday money.

  • I agree completely.

Did Roblox do anything "unreasonably unsafe?"

If they were selling a monthly PedoPass that gave someone access to the names and addresses of underage members, of course we should shut that shit down, but nearly every other online game has chat options. What makes Roblox less safe than those?

  • I'm not so sure about this, and I'm not paying to read the rest of the article.

I'm not saying that there aren't predators on Roblox, but is it Roblox's responsibility to teach kids not to talk to strangers?

The part I could read mentioned that they took the conversation to another platform before meeting. Is anyone suing THAT platform? If that's where they made the plans to meet, wouldn't they be more responsible?

I have no love for Roblox, but I don't think they caused this, unless there are other wild details I missed.

  • I spent a few years living in a major city, but most of my life has been in rural areas. One thing you should keep in mind is that there is a wide range between Boston and Middle of nowhere, Wyoming.

You'll have the best odds of appreciating a rural move if you live in or around the biggest town a few hours from a major city.

You'd have convenient access to most of the goods and services that are available to you now, a hospital, groceries, gas stations, etc. and if you need to access a city for an airport, concerts, or other things we don't see in the middle of nowhere, it's only a few hours away.

Moving completely away from civilization sounds great at times, but it makes every day things very inconvenient. Going from having a city at your fingertips to nothing at all is going to be a much bigger culture shock than your husband expects.
