  • they're not doing this for your security. They want to know that your computer is a "trusted platform".

security in terms of Trusted Computing is never about your security, and neither about your trust

EDIT: Further lunatic conspiracy theories: BitLocker is/will be backdoored so Microsoft forcing you into that ecosystem further guarantees they have access to your system. This all stinks to me, like your landlord telling you how you can arrange the furniture in your own apartment.

a backup of your bitlocker key is in your Microsoft account, and normally nowhere else. It's pretty easy for Microsoft to lock you out of your ow computer and data completely, if they wanted. Because you supposedly violated a license, or the terms of use or anything. just sayin', Microsoft already has (and had for a few years now) a scandal about extorting for your personal phone number by locking down your account a few days after registration, until you hand it over. and even there they justify it with a ToS violation, which is just a lie

  • I have been using IPS displays for many years, and I had to look up what is IPS glow. now I see it, but it doesn't bother me. what bothers me is that my dell monitor is absolutely garbage on reproducing dark colors, while my much older cheap LG is very good in that. like, the black background of the terminal shows a very visible difference

  • ... common theme here is the math/programming joke, but many of them also capture elements of anarchism

first I didn't understand, but this way "unhandled exceptions" sounds very cool. maybe a bit long though

  • well, for one firefox is not a stripped down browser but one with conveniences like push notifications, safebrowsing and other things, while ungoogled chromium is a specialized browser built for those who don't need all that. don't forget also that chrome can't be patched up on many fronts, ublock's dev gorhill has written about them here

that being said, mozilla could make a first time setup page with an option for convenience and another with a menu for selecting which services do you want. but I wouldn't hold my breath

  • lots of people already fail to verify what they read online. that's modern society I'm afraid. but I guess it's not something new, probably you have also heard of the misconception "they said it on TV so it must be true!"

  • you would be surprised how many believe most things an AI says. I would think its rougly the same userbase that can't tell the differences between firefox and chrome even in generalities, other than its looks. "the consumerbase"
