  • Just looking at the current number of lemmy.world subscribers (115k) , lemmy is very, very far from where it needs to be for long term success as a real alternative to other social media sites. There are literally hundreds of subreddits on Reddit that have more subscribers than all of lemmy.world, which is the largest instance. So far the only place I've ever seen lemmy mentioned is on Reddit, and even then only in certain subs like r/CenturyClub, which isn't even public. I think the key to getting new suscribers is for people on twitter, instagram and facebook to start mentioning lemmy on a regular basis and using clickable lemmy links in their posts.

  • It is indeed. A Norway lemming to be exact.

  • I’m glad that people here are actually sane.

    Speak for yourself.

  • There are tons of really good Asian dramas online that you can watch for free. Don't let the subtitles scare you off, I don't even notice them anymore.

  • I agree that would be nice to have. There's "Trending communities" on the main page, but I soon realized they coded that section as "today's activity level vs. the average level", which means brand new communities with only one post and no comments were being shown as "trending" since today's activity is infinitely more than the average for a community that didn't exist before today.

  • Break

  • Single person bathrooms ftw

  • I just noticed the extra "when" in the title. Makes it extra shitposty I guess. :\

  • I do, but if I subscribe to the science community it's to see articles on new discoveries in physics, mathematics, astronomy, paleontology, etc., in my feed, not hot button political/cultural themed "studies".

  • And the Easy-Bake Oven is an oven if it can cook something. Doesn't mean it belongs in a real kitchen.

  • So is "science" on lemmy.world going to have politically charged social science "studies" like the Reddit version? Can't we do better here?

  • It means Reddit is paying to store the image instead of lemmy.world

  • Most people have jumped onto lemmy.world instead of spreading out.

The main reason I chose lemmy.world is because I wanted to set up a community and my account on an instance that seemed less likely to disappear. I suspect that's the reason for many others as well, though it might end up being a false hope. Who knows...

  • I've been wondering about this also since I started a new community in the last week and have already invested a fair amount of time into it. I'm hesitant to keep investing time and effort, though, if it can just disappear with no recourse.
