  • I wonder if a "Reverse Funnel Fundraising Strategy" is legal?

Or my latest invention, the "Square-based Cone Financial Plan"?

  • Sounds similar to my system, with a Ryzen 5 2600 and GTX 1070 until earlier this year, which I bought in late 2018. I'm going to upgrade my rig later this year or early next.

How long have you had this PC? Do you feel you got value over that amount of time?

You can wait for a sale or buy used perhaps. But if you want it now and you can afford it, why would I want to stop you?

  • Alright, so I can refer to ex-president Trump as Inmate #P01135809 for the duration of the trial.

Well I hope Inmate #P01135809 gets a fair trial and the justice he deserves.

  • King didn't even plug the book in the article.

  • Only time companies tend to do that is for game remasters/ports.

  • How we handle fiires and various other tragedies up here: people across Canada donate, they support causes, neighborring communities stand up to help feed and house people displaced by disaster. Federal, provincial and town governments come together to make sure people evacuate safely and are supported. A person's "job" is like 20th if at all on the list of priorities.

Tourists are clueless and obnoxious anywhere you go in the world. But Hawaii residents and fellow American people need to look out for each other, island, state and federal governments need to look out for the affected residents.

I'm saying it should not even be a question whether one should be obligated to go to work in such a disaster. Going to work miserably to me is a failure on society's part. It's the tourism industry, government and people at large ignoring the residents' needs.

  • Hi, I can be a judgmental person and I'm one who criticizes a fair bit. I'm sorry when this can spread negativity, but I do my best to do it in a way that invites complex, constructive thinking and open ideas more than just argumentative talkback. I enjoy being positive and seeing positivity, but sometimes I will try to see both positives and negatives in ideas, arguments and statements. On some occasions my mood and tiredness can affect my tone as well. So pardon me for that.

Similar to what you say, I think the best that anyone can do is try to empathize with others; know there is someone on the other side.

Thank you for contributing your words of positivity.

  • Hey, it is a great year for games and you are absolutely fine to be excited about it! Like you say there a lot of highs but I'm trying to keep things within realistic context.

  • This year started off not so great and has had some lows alongside its great highs. Several live service games shutting down early this year, Suicide Squad game being a generic looter shooter, Redfall being okay but buggy, Forspoken being not great, LOTR-Gollum being not fun to play.

People in general have soured a little on microtransaction filled live service games. Established IP-driven games will likely still succeed and rake in tons, but people will be wary about new IPs tied to live-service games that can disappear in a heartbeat.

Sorry if this is me being a negative Nancy, I am looking forward to what's coming next but I figure I should remind people this very recent history.

  • He's definitely parodying the style of Nintendo Direct with poses like these:

  • Hawaii is not immune from the American mindset and cultural pressure of "the job being more important than the people/family".

If people were really upset with tourists coming, they could walk off the job to go and support their family except for the people tasked with sending tourists away. It's American work culture that abandons people who would do that.

  • Ah, that's excellent and just what I need. I'll probably self host in the next two months.

  • This goes for any phone app:

    • No onerous Terms of Service Agreement required
    • cheap and easy to develop
    • Easy to make fully open source apps
    • great backwards compatibility (some apps built for Android versions from 13 years ago can still be used)
    • no need to be locked into Apple's ecosystem
    • no need to pay Apple fees to "be a developer".
    • easy to load apps into phone without going through the official store or "test flight"
  • Maybe I shouldn't have done this without speaking to the other admins.

Maybe, but desperate times call for desperate measures and worst case scenario you might have needed to restore a backup.

It takes all sorts of experience to get a place like Beehaw running smoothly. Thanks to you, the other founding admins and to PenguinCoder.

  • A lot of Reddit "sub-equivalents" are lemmy.world, I do find them humorous, even if it's sometimes in a "haha the world is fucked up" kind of way.

If you recognize that it's unhealthy for you, it's likely a good idea to block those communities for yourself.

Many on Reddit simply have a subscribed list to their favourite subreddits and completely ignore the popular/all page. You can do the same by Subscribing to a bunch of communities here then limiting your feed to that, especially if you want to see things other than the memes and shitpost communities.

  • Yeah I just turned off every notification from Messenger Lite after seeing that. Next month I might just uninstall it completely, or opt for the Matrix bridge.

  • Lemmy.world feels the most Reddit-like in my experience. Beehaw felt... different even when I was browsing it from Lemmy.ca in April and the entire Lemmyverse as a whole had maybe a couple dozen posts a day. There were real neat and in-depth discussions by people who were capable of feeling and caring, and no propaganda spam that many instances had. We had a few bumps along the way but overall I'm still very happy about how things are.

  • Think of it like an online version of a community club. You get people with similar experiences or interest, who you have more in common than most to be able to talk about things you normally can't.

Someone barging in such a space just to be contrarian with everyone or tell them why they are wrong and should feel bad about themselves is not appropriate behaviour. I still hold that true even in a space for the most misguided group of conservatives.

You have to come at it in a way at least empathize with their situation and listen as much as you speak. You don't have to be convinced of anything, but show that you are willing to hear and there's a chance they can at least hear you out too.
