The guy embodies everything right with the system. Jumped through all the hoops. “Rehabilitated” himself despite prison. Followed the rules. Became, for a second time, a productive member of society.
And they sent him away after decades here to a country he doesn’t even know.
I can’t even think about the mental gymnastics engaged in by the pro-military repugnicans who also say “if immigrants came here legally they would be fine…” They probably don’t even bother. Just shrug anf move on.
We’re the taxpayers that want “free” health care while simultaneously paying taxes. The Right somehow thinks we’re too stupid to know we pay taxes that makes these things happen. Heck…we want people to have nice things.
Meanwhile the Right doesn’t want to pay taxes yet somehow expects to get social services like paved roads or safe drinking water. I’d mention schools or health care but the republicans clearly DGAF about those things.
The joy of when that Big Screen movie that you never got to see finally comes to the TV. With ad breaks. You absolutely didn’t care about the ads because they were normal at the time. And you had to be there on time to watch it, and make sure nobody else in the house was going to try to watch something at the same time. While I appreciate the huge variety and the ability to binge some great series today, it’s still the same old shit even with all the streaming services: A lot of bad TV, lots of uninteresting TV, with a few bright spots and plenty of ads.
They like suffering for some reason. They’ve been told they’re victims for such a long time - not that their own choices helped put them where they are - that it’s everyone else’s fault they aren’t living the American Dream. So they lash out like angry toddlers and take happiness from someone else’s suffering, they actively seek to increase it. Doesn’t matter if it’s taking away LGBTQ rights and actively encouraging discrimination against them, ripping kids away from brown-skinned parents, or letting women die thanks to the lack of abortion services. So because Billy Bob can’t afford a lifted F150, the government won’t let him have a full-auto AR
variant, and he can’t stand a school that might read his kids a story about a gay couple, everyone else has to suffer worse to make his lot look better.
You’re insistent that a mythical person would agree with me? Like I said, you might as well be arguing with me that Gandalf would as well. You’re changing the subject.
I’m atheist, so I don’t particularly care. Jesus was a socialist in the simplest terms according to his actions in the bible, and even his system placed demands on his followers. Or at least the system created in his name.
Socialism is an economic theory second to the form of government. IOW, you can have authoritarian + socialism, authoritarian + capitalist, or whatever combination might exist, like Democratic + socialism, or social policy.
All systems rely on forced redistribution in some form unless it’s anarchy.
This dude reads like a shiftless rich slacker who got the gig because daddy helped him or something. Guy was going nowhere fast, and now he’a got one of the top slots in the nation?
Those with the authority to do their jobs and jail trump willfully abdicated their responsibility to do so. Yeah, there absolutely is a subset of this population aggressively driving us toward an oligarchy and authoritarian kleptocracy, but the majority of American citizens would prefer to see the law upheld. We don’t want a three-tiered legal system, the bottom jails first and throws away the key, the middle bleeds you dry with legal costs, and the top has no rules or consequences.
We essentially have an oligarchy, or at least a growing list of authoritarian leaders. Kings in many ways except by name. Kings have been perfectly willing to destroy countries in furtherance of their egos, profits or other. Wellbeing of their citizens be damned.
