I love all the broken clock mfs in here. I’ll concede that everyone, including myself, thought he (and trump) were too old to be running because they’re both mentally declining in different ways.
We didn’t know of any obvious major health issues with Biden. He had a shit debate and everyone suddenly acts like they knew something was wrong other than just getting old, being propped up on cold meds or whatever the official excuse was. Prostate cancer doesn’t cause these symptoms.
That said, the big question would be whether or not it was known he had cancer and was getting treatment for it, the effects of treatment certainly would be hard on someone mentally, their mental capabilities, and physically. Hiding that shit and running him for office again would be fucked up.
You’re conflating modern sciences with historic geology, and tossing in a dash of denialism to boot. There’s a well known adage called Planck’s principle (IIRC) which basically says that science advances one funeral at a time:
A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.
Also, science was very much a good ol’ boys club of people that often came from wealthy backgrounds because they could afford the education to become scientists, so they were very much big egos trying to keep their theories and discoveries attached to their names even in the face of more correct or contradicting information.
Nowadays the egos may not be quite as large, though there definitely plenty that resist change due to ego or other personal interest, but absolutely politics influences science in multiple ways. It determines who gets funding, what commercial interests pay and benefit from the discoveries, and what gets presented to the public.
Sure would be nice if all scientific results were unbiased, accessible, and free, but unfortunately that’s not always the case.
Oh look, the “you can’t take from the rich, that’s redistribution of wealth and communist!” people are wanting to take from the wealthier states and redistribute wealth.
Consider one of those protective cases that has the flap that covers the charging port. Yeah, a minor annoyance when you want to plug the charger in, but it keeps the port crud free. I’ve used variations of that style for years and it keeps the phone in good shape even when it’s collecting rust- or sawdust in the shop.
Shitty argument that subjectively implies a min/max. Exactly how many people need to be killed by rapid-fire mods for you to change your mind? No, don’t butwhatabout some other unrelated statistic… Spell it out. What number of people dying will be enough for you to decide that increasing the fire rate of firearms should not be done?
There is a serious threat of blown fuse plugs or fire. The carbon brakes create a lot of heat really quickly, but it takes a few minutes for that heat to soak into the wheel assemblies. There are plugs that melt to release the tire pressure so they don’t explode and cause further damage, but fire can still be a problem.
Same old shit. Companies treat employees like machines and numbers on a spreadsheet and demanding more and more productivity while paying lip service to rules and regs yet knowing that employees will skirt, bend, or break the rules to meet whatever sterile metric the beancounters set within the expected window.
Don’t meet the metric? Get some bad performance reviews. Start referencing the safety rules that slow you down? Not a team player. Get fired for some nebulous problem.
Most of the time it’s ignored, but when something goes wrong the company just blames the employee for failing to follow regs.
Automated system reporting just keeps the costs down by creating a higher turnover of employees.
Sports fanbase tends to not be a tech base, which Lemmy primarily is.
Sports are paywalled to hell and back, the userbase here is far more inclined to avoid paywalls and the content behind it.
People dislike the celebrity gossip and stuffed suits surrounding sports.
My own personal disregard for sports leans more towards the dislike of the monied celebrity of the entire genre, the worship of the players, and the pointless obsession and discussion of things like stats that have all the meaning of dowsing rods. But that’s literally just my opinion and obviously plenty of people feel otherwise.
I think the internet at large should be viewed this way and the Fediverse is no exception. It’s almost impossible to completely get rid of anything that isn’t under your direct and immediate control - i.e. your own personal email server. I don’t assume that Lemmy/Fediverse is any different.
That said, with the effort to be ”not Reddit” or just another social media platform ready to be potentially abused, focus should be placed on privacy and user ownership and their ability to control their data on the platform.
Just more displaying that the rich, and particularly rich people like trump, live in the land of no consequences. They make demands that others pay for, never themselves, and when underlings defy them they become furious. Walmart CEOs are underlings, now.
