  • Yes, but China is forward looking while doing shitty things. The US is putting it in reverse gear while doing shitty things.

  • That’s an interesting video, and I don’t think it defines exactly what I was trying to say, but it absolutely is tangential to it.

I want to say White Paternalism, where white people think they know what is best for minority groups, but that name often has an association with racism.

    Edit: found it: “white saviorism”

  • I never felt Harris actually stood for anything. This is easily the first election where I felt all the decisions made by the DNC were hard wrong - and I already thought the DNC fucked everything up when the turned on Sanders - but this time they really chose every bad option they could. A senior citizen that was absolutely having problems (outside the debate performance) and choosing an inclusivity* candidate that really had a checkered past of making climbing the ladder a priority while having no real policy gains or stances. Even in the lead up to everything, the other candidates were all but brushed aside. No real debate over policy or where the country was going.

She said whatever middle of the road thing needed to be said to appeal to enough people while leveling mealy criticism at best for the real problems, from Israel’s shitty war to attacks worker’s right in the US. We went from a candidate that should have never run again to a candidate that hadn’t given anyone a reason to want her to run at all at the last minute. And that’s awful, especially to lose against trump.

    • I hate to even say it, but the fact is that the DNC wanted to run a black female. They banked on the (I can’t think of the word/name for it - people who want to do things for a minority community, but do so cluelessly, remove agency of the group, disregard the actual needs and culture of the group. Usually modestly wealthy white people making “programs” for minority communities) people to vote for the feel-good of voting a minority person up while not actually thinking that people would have needs and policy concerns that would influence their vote, or their willingness to vote at all. The DNC already had “protect the rich white people” as a top priority. They didn’t think people were smart enough to sense that, and everyone really had a feeling that the Democrats didn’t care about them anymore.

Edit: found it. It’s “white saviorism” or “white savior complex.”

  • Somebody might actually get in trouble here for pissing off rich people. Regardless, the common investor will just get hosed.

  • We got the “deconstructed hitler” regime.

One of them got the drug addiction and racism, another got the no-drinking stupid decision fascist part.

Which one will be the public speaking book burner?

  • Paypal is not a bank account. This is dangerous.

  • Dozens of us! Dozens, I say!

(But I do like Star Trek and use Linux, I just don’t make my presence here revolve around that.)

  • IMO it was my hardware on the first tries. Not sure what your problem was, but after digging around I found something that loosely indicated that my hardware was too old or something - it didn’t play well with the onboard graphics or similar. But the second hardware set I tried it on was far newer, and after all the installation was complete I got a black screen. Every time. No matter which guide I used, no matter what dependencies I thought might be missing or whatever I tried to get it working. A hair pulling experience indeed.

  • Last I checked Tesla made some features, like FSD, non-transferrable. Unless that’s changed, a new owner has to pay Tesla to reactivate any services like that.

  • Soon as people get rich and can avoid the consequences of being an asshole, the filter comes off and they become assholes.

  • “Failed to load media”

Bummer. Mobile using the Voyager app, if anyone else has the same issue.

  • They’re all selfish fucks. Don’t want to take responsibility for anything. Doesn’t matter if it’s the environment, masking to save lives, or the laws they break.

  • What meltdown are we on for the year? The toddler in chief seems to have one every couple of weeks.

  • Seconded it’s not a no-brainer. I spent days trying to get it set up with Docker on two different computers and three different distros. It wouldn’t install, if it did install it had errors, if it would even open at all with anything other than a black screen. Hours trying to search how to fix it. I gave up and installed it as a standalone app on a common distro. Not as convenient, but FML it finally worked. Really felt like I wasted my time. Personally, this is the exact bullshit linux fanatics completely ignore when they insist on how great linux is vs whatever. I’ve got a shitload of patience, willpower and modest skill to try to get something like this working, but 99% of the population doesn’t. That’s why linux will stay on the back burner. And if it ever becomes just as easy as Windows…guess what? You’ll have many of the same problem as Windows.

  • Cruelty is the point.

Remember when America would criticize some foreign country for their mistreatment of someone, or inability to treat an individual with a medical issue, and we would take them in and make a big public fuss about it?

The Republicans sure as hell don’t.

  • Seems interrelated with butwhataboutism and appeal to hypocrisy. Basically redirecting the conversation to something unrelated to make the original speaker look bad.
