  • Yeah, me too. I grew up with heavily pixelated 70s & 80s graphics and I have zero desire to return to that now that technology has improved so much that it's not necessary.

Shame, because it means there are some games that I just won't enjoy, but so it goes, there's lots more stuff to play.

  • Yeah, I didn't finish it but I loved the style and the colours.

  • Yeah, horrible innit? When I used to go to the cinema as a kid in the 70s and 80s, you'd get maybe ten minutes of trailers before your film. And I never minded that, I don't dislike watching trailers. These days, totally different. Last time I went to the cinema there was maybe half an hour of ads. Some trailers, but mostly just advertisements for crap.

It is so fuckin disrespectful to their customers. If I wanted to see all that bullshit, I could have stayed home and watched it on TV. Except I don't watch TV because the experience is so poor - largely because of ads.

I understand that cinemas have been struggling ever since covid, even before, and I understand that advertising revenue pays the bills. But cinema isn't cheap, for me it's an occasional treat when there's something I really wanna see on the big screen. I do not want to spend that much money and get treated like a fuckin farm animal being fed crap. Wankers.

I can't be alone in feeling this way, who wants to pay to see ads? Who thinks that sounds like a great evening out? It ruins the experience, and it's insulting, by the time the movie starts I'm angry. I'd rather pay a bit more and just have a couple of trailers.

I recently went to a small autonomous cinema with a mate and saw Mulholland Drive. Great experience, comfy seats, could bring in drinks from the bar, no fuckin ads. But for new films there aren't many options. So I don't often go to the cinema.

Sorry for this long and bitter diatribe! You just hit on something that really pisses me off too.

  • Yeah, same here. Back when I was younger I was really into direct action. Big demos - there's no buzz like a riot, fighting up against the police lines - and smaller, quieter actions. These days, I feel like I'm a bit too old for all that - and looking back I'm not sure all those actions changed a single thing. Except maybe made me feel like I was doing something useful. Also, it was fun. And I still think it's important to counterprotest when nazis take to the street. But yeah, I'm more at the local level too. I kinda feel like getting engaged locally is maybe more useful than the big, flashy stuff. You can get stuff done, even if it's not big changes. Lots of small changes add up. Plus, you're meeting like-minded people, growing local community resiliency. If shit goes proper bad, these local community groups will become vital.

  • It wasn't insulting? I mean I totally disagree with OP's perspective, and I kinda feel like there has to be something wrong with anyone who actively supports either musk or trump - but I think it's good to have different opinions on here, otherwise we'd just all be agreeing with each other and it would be fuckin boring!

  • Yeah, it really is hard to believe. It kind of eats away your faith in humanity. How could we let shit get so bad?

  • He really used to - remember all the iron man shit? The image of the benevolent billionaire who was going to open up space? I'm ashamed to admit I was tempted to believe too.

He lost the positive public image before he started associating with trump tho. I think what happened was he fired his PR team because he thought he could do better himself. Right around the time he got pissy and was calling that cave diver a pedo, the guy who saved a bunch of kids in Thailand. It was all downhill from there and I don't remember ever seeing anyone piss away so much public goodwill so quickly.

  • Maybe this time a strongly worded reprimand would do the trick.

  • I also totally disagree with the comment, but let's not do insults eh?

  • I'm not gonna downvote you for expressing an opinion I don't agree with, and I'm sorry other people are - we need views from all perspectives if lemmy is not too become an echo chamber.

But I think Elon did terrible work at doge. Even if you think smaller government is better, it has to be reached by a planned and controlled downsizing - not just by hack n slash random cuts of stuff they dislike.

I agree that Elon is probably the better administrator, but that's kinda like saying a pig is smarter than a chicken. You wouldn't want either of them in charge.

  • Wow they are arguably the most powerful people in the world and they are having a public squawky slappy fight like stroppy toddlers.

Meanwhile humanity is circling the drain. We are so fucked.

  • I fondly remember celebrity deathmatch. I'm not cheering either of them, I just wanna see the blood.

  • And what you absolutely must do is not say a fuckin word to trump. Unless maybe you want him to pass disinformation to Putin.

  • Yeah, I was on Reddit way back, like many who have left I was very active, like half a mil karma, bla bla. Didn't get banned, the API thing was the final straw for me. I've been on Lemmy since then and prefer it. Also, whilst I contribute here I spend less of my time on Lemmy, which means I'm reading more books and stuff. Leaving Reddit was absolutely the right decision. I think sunk cost keeps a lot of people there, even though karma isn't a real thing and the site is turning to shit.

  • Yeah I'm just now playing it for the first time too. I'm really enjoying it and still have so much to do.

  • Yeah. I don't like having this response because I feel like anything that increases our reach and activity in space is a positive step. It's unfortunate that spacex has musk's shitty fingerprints all over it.

  • It's a shame you're being downvoted for making valid points. I think the problem is that many people can't endorse a trump policy, even if it might eventually have an unintended positive outcome. I don't blame them either - I get the impression that a lot of the tariff stuff we've seen so far has been market manipulation for the benefit of shit-sack and his wealthy backers.
