  • I can't remember the details anymore, but for a year or two I had a bad run of absolutely hosing my boot config and leaving myself in a state where the system either couldn't find it's kernel or couldn't find the root partition and would drop me into an initramfs emergency shell. I got pretty good at booting into a live environment, getting all my dm-raid and lvm disks discovered, mounting all the relevant file systems in the right place, chrooting in and rebuilding the pieces that were broken

  • The irony of a country that pushed for independence partly on the basis of unfair taxation going on to establish a tax system that practically requires you to pay a fee to pay your tax is just chef kiss

You know much I had to pay at the end of the last tax year? $0. Our tax office does the calculations for you based on the income that your employer reports, compares that to the amount of tax your employer has paid on your behalf, 99.9% of the time these are the same number and you get a letter saying you are cool, go about your life. The only time you'd need to hire a professional is if you have complex trusts or investment income - at which point you can probably afford it - but the system is set up to ensure that for normal people who just earn a salary or wage, there is nothing they need to do besides a form when you start a job

  • Can you block a specific instance client side? Last time I went looking in settings I only saw options to block specific communities

  • Event Director sounds like a real asshole

  • I suspect people are expecting that they'll get absolutely rinsed by various investigations then get a massive federal bailout cos they are too strategically important to allow them to go bankrupt

  • Given that the snap store is a closed source proprietary component, I'd argue that snaps are a walled garden

  • Idk, bit of a longshot by maybe it'll turn out that he stored recordings of all his meetings in the spa or something

  • I've got a Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro and found it really easy to setup and get good results printing without having to spend a lot of time fiddling - I guess it depends on your definition of "budget", cos although it's cheaper that the equivalent Prusa, there are definitely cheaper options around

  • It's not just let's encrypt - the common names of any SSL cert issued by a public CA have to be recorded in a public certificate transparency log. You can use tools like https://crt.sh to search the logs

  • Previously Gandi, but they've jacked up their prices and cut features, so in the process of moving to AWS Route53.

    My main requirements are:

    • Competitively priced (doesn't need to be the absolute cheapest, but the feature set better justify the price)
    • Able to manage domain with Terraform (I've got 10 domains, and copy-pasting DNSSEC keys around gets old really fast)
    • Not be CloudFlare (fuck those guys in particular)
  • This is the sort of thing the cranky old wizard says to the hero before inevitably teaching them about mushrooms so they can go on a magical adventure

  • CFCs

    Jump
  • Australia and New Zealand do not fuck about with sun safety. Even with the improvements in the ozone layer, our skin cancer rates are still way higher than the rest of the world

  • Because I live in a country with sane laws about minimum wages, minimum paid leave, and a functioning healthcare system

  • Yeah, I'm just appreciating the artistry in setting up a shot like this for a domb visual gag. This would have taken actual effort, bravo

  • How's the rollout of the 10G stuff going? Seems like it's been coming "soon" for the last couple of years. Not that I could actually make use of 10G down.

  • 950 down, 500 up for $109NZD/month

  • The point isn't that the tools were inappropriate, it's that they were used outside the defined assembly and inspection processes - if you need some lubricant to get the door seal in that's fine, but the process docs need to specify that. Similarly, if the testing process defines that you need to check for gaps, it should be specifying the thickness of gauge to use and how much of a gap is permissible, not just grab whatever random card you have lying around and poke it in.
