  • Check. I'm here not there anymore.

But, I do have something to say about the lemmy experience. It's not that there's less. There is but i don't think that an issue.

What I do have an issue with is the insane amount of politically charged posts. It's almost making me return to that other place.

Like I get it, the rich should all die horrible deaths, you're socialist, not communist, you do support freedom just not capitalism.

Aren't we all deep down inside socialists?

I mean jesus started it, we've been spoon fed it for 2k years. It's just that We're all also greedy and egoistic sacks of shit so there are some weaving flaws in that system.

Great. Can we now get back to real content? Let's not talk about politics. Let's talk about world issues, Foss, games, books, movies, news (Libya, morroco) I dunno anything but politics.

Politics and religion never unite. Fun stuff and real tragedy does.

  • Bullshit. Imho.

Old man saying stupid shit? For sure. Next to a load of experience old people bring old views of the world with them. Just talk to your dad/grand dad about the finer things of life. Chances are good you don't agree.

Checo being discriminated? If checo is being so discriminated.. what's he doing in the best car on the grid? For several seasons?!?!

I think the opposite. I think Checo is being liked by a lot on the grid. Checo just had 1 problem: Max. Max is humbling everyone this season. Checo unfortunately the most because he's in the same car. One day max will find his Senna, his Schumacher, his Lewis. But for now... He's up there. Peak form. Unrivalled.

If you're talking about some fans and some "journalists"... Yeah, just like irl some of those are assholes. That is not the general consensus, it's a small very Loud group.

And indeed race does had some impact on how the world views Checo. But I'm talking about something else then you. His race performance was lacking for a long time. And I think the old geezer Is telling us between the lines there was other stuff going on in Checo's life impacting his performance. And that unlike seb or max checo could not filter that out. And the old fart blames that on his "south American culture/upbringing" not race.

But read in it what you want. This is my opinion. Just as (in)valid as yours probably. :)

  • So it should be praised as it currently isn't the standard in the gaming industry. But hey, let's shit on it so we can totally tell the industry that this is the wrong path and micro transactions are the way to go!

  • My experience as a parent:

It has nothing to do with education. It had nothing to do with knowledge.

It has everything to do with trust. They trust youtube/insta/Tiktok. They trust the influencers.

This is nothing new or exclusive to kids. Don't believe me? The antivax movement. You know: "educate yourself." That. Grownups are not immune.

    This is nothing new.

  • Serial drivers? Are we talking rs232? (Checks what tf ftdi is)

Ah yes. We really are talking about very old school stuff. It brings back memories.

This week I learned we have a waterslide connected through rs232 to a pi in our network. How's that for a IOT discovery. Working for a medium sized municipality really shows you all the bonkers solutions (and implementations) out there. If you can think a IT horror up, chances are good somebody really has created it and is using it commercially.

Back to your issue, which is more a Ftdi issue then a windows issue since they themselves create the crashing drivers. And I can see how an old school serial port, connected to a modern pc can result in all kinds of havoc when done wrong.

I see FTDI also have usb to rs232 solutions. That should work... Mostly. (as long as the solution doesn't go looking for an irq or other horror from the past.)

I'm really getting curious for what use case you're still using rs232. Most network gear these days is perfectly managed without it.

  • I see exactly what I expected. I didn’t bought the hysteria on Youtube/insta/TK.

And I didn’t preorder the game because of that hysteria. The Hysteria looked a lot like the Cyberpunk Fiasco. Realistic expectations, we seem to have lost that capability with upcoming video games. When something sounds too good, It is.

I don’t know what you saw Todd say where but I just read some interviews like this one: https://www.ign.com/articles/todd-howard-interview-starfield-sgf-2023 And in nothing i've red from him even slightly resembles the hype around this game.

TH: “We do lock it at 30 [FPS], because we want that fidelity, we want all that stuff.”

That means 1 thing: not a real action game, more in line of FO4, maybe NMS like but more like RDR. A dogfight @30FPS is over before it starts. Beauty is more important then speed for this game.

Speaking about RDR, TH: “So I think it also as a flow, probably has more of a feeling of a [Red Dead Redemption 2]”

Here you have it literally: a game like RDR. Not NMS. Not Elite. Not StarCitizen. But like RDR. That means that the ships are more of a means of transport then a real gameplay mechanic. And space is just the theme.

TH: “this is like five or six games in one, right? It's the spaceship game, it's the on the ground game, it's just a dialogue game, it's an outpost game, it's a crafted game. It does all of these things, and so... And it always is tricky for us to get a good game flow where those things don't feel like they're separate game”

That means the spaceship part is not front and center. All these things he states are just pieces for a standard RPG:

    • Ground game: Loot and shoot.
    • Dialogue game: standard RPG.
    • Outpost game: base building.
    • Crafting? Standard part of every RPG in the last decade.

Add to that it’s build with the Bethesda engine. We know it’s capabilities for what.. 2 decades? We flew in FO4. But we didn't steer...... It was on rails

This all meant in my mind that the spaceship part had to be a transportation mini game.

So reading the official stuff, I always expected a mix between FO4 and Mass Effect. With a mobile “base” (your ship) with maybe some light spaceship combat. Sprinkled with some exploration.

Not a game which morphed all those separate game types. Just an FP/3rd p ARPG set in a cool science fiction universe.

I think we're finally getting Firefly.

  • Yes indeed, fuck saints row, this is the real loss.

Ah well. We'll always have the fact that the freespace community was the first community which got pissed of by the great Derek whatshisname. That was fun.

And Fortunately we've hard light productions.

  • I'm holding out on starfield. There must be a cyberpunk moment waiting right around the corner because you can't jam all that in a game and expect it to work too.

Also 80% what's out there of so called features of this game only exists inside the heads of influencers. That hopium is the real problem.

I tried holding out on armoured core. I couldn't. Glad I didn't. Amazing game. Easier then Elden ring but still very clearly a from software title.

  • Yes. Everywhere I go Americans (and us Dutch) act like the entire world is theirs. (but I'm American! Or in case of us Dutch: ik zit hier en ik moet bier. En die bbq gaat niet uit. En techno moet hard.)

I more or less concur with the other guy. He said it in a shitty way though.

Problem is, there is no "world police". ('obligatory: ' MURICA FUCK YEAH!)

Calling the FBI, Essex police department, Clouseau's Surete or even interpol will do jack shit in 99% of these cases because of the simple fact they don't have any jurisdiction. Add to that they couldn't care less because narcotics and gang violence are bigger problems and you end up with reality: it will only cost time and solve nothing. Why? Because IT crimes are hard and often times pricey to investigate with very little returns. (yeeeh, we arrested a 14 year old pimply faced youth, a minor so he will be out in 2 days with a slap on the wrist)

And finally: The FBI does not have global reach. This is a global platform.
