  • Again, the vast majority of places don't have this issue of tipping at all.

Capitalism brutally forcing people into work they would otherwise not choose sadly happens almost everywhere, but tipping does not.

  • It's hard for me to relate as I've literally never agreed to pay for something without checking the price I'm agreeing to. Like...they hand me the machine and it says various percent options, and so I read them and then don't hit any of them unless I want to do whatever that button indicates.

There is nothing 'dark pattern' about it. The interface was not created to trick anyone at all. It's a completely standard interface. It clearly labels how one can choose to pick any tip of their own liking, including none.

And sure, alcohol can lower peoples decision making abilities. But I don't agree with policing people's bad decisions when it only impacts themselves. Drunk driving is one thing, but ordering 5 unhealthy cheeseburgers when you're drunk is a very different thing.

  • I'm not saying you need the money, just that he should give it to you as he would expect you to do for him if the situation was the other way around.

He won't though. Leeches like that only take from others.

  • Yeah, guess people shouldn't vote in elections either since their vote doesn't single handedly settle the election. What an absurdly stupid position to hide behind.

Relying on restaurant owners to 'do the right thing' without any incentive to do so is extremely naive. And they just, don't. Look around. They could but they don't.

  • You guessed wrong. I have a strong opinion against tipping specifically because of working in restaurants including as a server.

I did not like the inconsistent pay and would have preferred consistent pay. I'm sorry if that doesn't align with your worldview.

  • I'm saying they need to have some respect for themselves and refuse bullshit ass pay like that. And the vast majority of civilized nations have servers just fine without tipping/bull shit poverty wages. Service is better too.

  • While they could definitely ban me and I'd have no problem with that at all, they won't... because the owners have no incentive to ban me. They make the exact same amount from me whether I tip or not.

I guess if someone went on a big rant that disturbed other customers and caused a loss of sales they may ban them. But otherwise, just quietly playing your bill and leaving, no...not getting banned lol.

  • They are included in the price in civilized countries. It is only a very very limited number of places where you can't hand a cashier $5 to pay for something literally labelled $5 and then walk out.
