  • I think it could be a load issue (heavy load on the server) so I'm adjusting the check to every 5 minutes to see if that changes the error rate.

  • Uptime Kuma is a fantastic selfhosted status page system. You can use it to track and notify you of network outages or it can scrape a url for a key word and alert you when it's found. I've heard people using the keyword feature to find out when RPI go back in stock for example.

I use it at work to keep track of our systems and their uptime as well as cloud systems we use.

  • Let's not probe any deeper then that. We might not want to learn why they're starving.

  • You can't do the latter without doing the former. If you're not manufacturing consent, squashing decenters, and keeping the population depressed enough at home, your going to have a lot of free thinkers with free time on their hands, and that's not good for the power holders.

    • Nationwide, on average, 79% of U.S. adults are literate in 2023.
    • 21% of adults in the US are illiterate in 2023.
    • 54% of adults have a literacy below 6th grade level.
    • Low levels of literacy costs the US up to 2.2 trillion per year.
  • Also a threat to National Security. Dr. Dre is a terrorist and should be held accountable for his crimes.

  • I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because no on seems to know or give a shit that Tesla was caught red handed doing this. They effectively murdered those drivers.

  • When asked about peace the EU declined to comment.

  • If your not trying to recover data off anything with a hard drive your doing it wrong!

  • So you really have no concept of class warfare? What's that like for you?

  • The Chinese agencies have access to whatever data they want on you. There is no moratorium on data brokers doing business with China. Even if there were, they would get that data from one of their BRICS partners.

So they have data from TikTok. Now what? What's next? What's the threat they pose with that data to the American people or the students and faculty at this university?

What is the university protecting it's network from specifically?

The CIA has a long history of unlawfully monitoring and retaliating against US Citizens for advocating against US policy, like opposing the war in Vietnam.

From a historical standpoint, it would appear that citizens of the United States have more to fear from the CIA then they do from the People's Republic of China.

  • It's clearly not an infosec or opsec issue, so what else would it be?

  • You should only get a point if someone replies to your comment or post with "China Good!" and it should remove two points if someone replies to your comment with "China Bad!" Users from the grad can cast votes for both Good and Bad with their comments, while everyone else can only cast Good votes (one vote for a post per user via top-level-comment, and one vote per comment per user) Users from the grad start with +100 points and users not from the grad start with -100 points. There are no point caps. The bot replies with your score if someone replies to your post or comments with "Show me your papers comrade!" Otherwise, it just silently tabulates your score.

What does the bot do with your score? Who can say, it's not for us to know! I've heard rumors that it commands an army of bots to upvote your posts if you're in good standing. I've also heard rumors that if your score is too low, the only community you can view is !communism101@lemmygrad.ml. Some say the scores are made up and the points don't matter! (it actually just does nothing with it unless someone tries to see your score lol, or if you DM it with a Show-Score command)

  • Because there is no real Operational Security justification for its ban, that doesn't instantly catch all US-based social media platforms as well. It's not about security, it's about control. The feds have no under-the-table deals or even overt surveillance partnerships with TikTok. They do have that with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and beyond. In fact, the CIA has financial stakes with those companies as well, and often were early sources of funding for them: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/social-media-is-a-tool-of-the-cia-seriously/

Which I guess is fine because the CIA has never been the enemy of the American people, ever.

  • It's weird to think that you would support banning TikTok because of the influence China might have on US Culture, but are totally cool with the fact that Facebook is a tool of cultural export across the whole globe. I don't remember the last time TikTok was the instrument of genocide, but hey, if you want to support that, go for it.

  • Then don't use TikTok? But also, TikTok does up to 10min videos? It's weird that your reaction is "Shortform content is bad and we should ban the app"
