Turnitin isn’t AI technology but I assume it has similar legal ramifications and a lot of schools require teachers to have everything go through turnitin (usually by having students submit online). It just spits out a percentage so that the prof can take a closer look. Real quotes count towards the percentage displayed. Maybe with AI you’d have a bit more of a case against the company because you might claim you trusted it to be accurate or something?

Could be used for coordinating large scale decentralized projects. Say we want to organize logistics of food so that everyone gets some. After calculating need for each locale independently, Blockchain could be used for people to commit to, for example, bringing 4 crates of carrots to a location for shipping. Additional blockchain ledgers might keep track of space on the transportation vehicles etc. The ledger’s main job here would be to ensure that a given task (or a given cubic foot for the space example) is not double booked, and to allow interested parties to see where there needs to be more commitment in order to feed everyone (or fill up the ship in the space example).

I think you did it right. You politely explained that remote work is both amicable to your position and a significant benefit to your quality of life. In order to continue selling your labour to them, you require enough flexibility to accommodate this request. If the company specifically needs the position to be in-person then unfortunately it’s time to part ways.

As far as predicting the future— if you’ve been there 15 years you probably have a decent idea of both how valuable you are to the company, and how valuable the key decisionmakers see you. It’s likely not in their best interest to cut an employee with so much institutional knowledge out just for a policy shift. Unless you’re being paid inflated wages for your position compared with the industry, I’d hazard to guess you’re safe.

My experience with Google search had degraded dramatically in the last 6mo. Just isn’t pulling up relevant results. Sometimes not even close.

Other things like weight, gait, the angle of your feet, and mileage can factor in too. My sister has “flat feet” so her shoes get sort of squished to one side and break down faster.

I bought a pair of Ahinsa shoes in their Sunbrella material (embarrassingly expensive) that have lasted about 3 years as my daily shoes (work, errands, casual weekend stuff, local hiking). They still look great! The inner lining is starting to get some holes and I’m considering asking a local shoe repair person if it can be replaced. Unfortunately the company shifted to using mostly a vegan leather material that I have not tried but am skeptical of.

For the price ($250) it would be reasonable to buy 3-4 cheaper pairs that only last a year.

Stop worrying about labels and join a community group doing anything good.
