  • Don't believe for a second congressional Republicans are going to "awaken." We're well past that. More fear just will make them cower and grovel even harder.

They were already so spineless at two impeachments that they refused to save themselves or us from this, when salvation from Trump was served to them on a silver platter - they're weak, pathetic lumps of misshapen ego.

  • So what about the Democrats, I asked? “They hate us and won’t accept us. And if they don’t change their attitude, Trump and MAGA will keep winning.”

That was echoed by former Republican congressman Joe Walsh, who regularly speaks out about this. “If there’s not room for center-right former Republicans in today’s Democratic Party, then today’s Republican Party will remain victorious and our democracy will disappear,” Walsh told me.

Most of us will accept you. Just stop being awful people. It isn't hard.

  • The news, met with disbelief from patrons and staff, followed a closely watched visit by the US secretary of homeland security, Kristi Noem, in March. Touring the library, Noem said “USA number one!” and then hopped over the black tape separating the two countries and said “51st state” when she landed in Canada. She repeated the joke – echoing Donald Trump’s recent fixation on annexing Canada – three times.

Most people get older but there's never a magic moment they become "adults." Many times people retain good qualities of childhood as they get older - curiosity, desire to play with others, a desire to learn. And many times they retain bad qualities of childhood - selfishness, lack of self-awareness, impulsiveness, impatience, tantrums.

This administration, led by Trump as the exemplar, is just a collection of people who got older but never stopped being children, in the worst ways. They have no self-awareness and just do whatever they feel like. Then they cloak it in the language of "adults," lack the curiosity to investigate if they're right, and throw a tantrum if someone tries to stop them.

  • I hope there is someone keeping track of this firehose of sewage so we know what needs to get cleaned up in the less-dystopian future (if we're lucky enough to have one). Do we start a Project 2029(?), to return the country to sanity?

Again, I'm not sure we'll ever have the opportunity because the horizon is pretty dark. But it's overwhelming just trying to keep track of how many of the country's worst people are implementing their dream agendas with no oversight or limitation whatsoever.

  • I agree, but in context he was just extending a metaphor that treated the voters/citizens as "owners," presumably because he thought Trump would understand the language better.

"As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale. We're sitting in one right now," Carney told Trump. "Having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign last several months, it's not for sale. Won't be for sale, ever," he said.

  • In an ironic twist, the Trump administration deported gang members from the U.S. to El Salvador's notorious Terrorism Confinement Center prison who faced federal indictments that could have resulted in their testifying in court about the pact with Bukele.

This isn't irony, this is complicity and corruption. Trump clearly gave Bukele the visit and public press conference as a reward for holding those prisoners no questions asked. The prisoners also not being able to testify against Bukele is a feature to Trump and Bukele, not a bug.

  • I'm sure you are not one of the problem hosts, but his will harm the renters more because they're the ones already subject to the bigger power imbalance - by definition not near their home and relying on Airbnb to ensure a safe place to stay - and Airbnb is reputed to be pro-host against renters.

For example, there was a trip to Europe where a host physically threatened us in writing, Airbnb kept transferring us around rather than offer any solutions, we left for our safety, the host claimed we didn't cancel and owed the full stay, Airbnb took the host's side without evidence despite our evidence of their threat in writing, we did a chargeback, and Airbnb disputed it for 4 months in apparent bad faith.

Anecdotal, but a case study why black-holing renters' contacts seems more damaging.

  • Oh, I agree completely.

But I remember seeing her in 2023 and thinking, "Trump is scraping the bottom of the barrel now that nobody competent will work with him. This is truly clown-level, the bottom 1% of attorneys." In a fair timeline she wouldn't even be an attorney - she would work for 20 years to peak as a manager of the McDonald's that Trump is a lifer janitor at.

I should have known - I had similar thoughts about Sarah Huckabee Sanders when she was press secretary, and now she's [checks notes]... Governor of Arkansas.
