I wondered when that would happen. During the Clinton years congress passed a bill mandating lawful Intercept on telephone central offices. CALEA. It's an open doorway.

Because, and you'll like this, the real reason weather reporting exists is it's commercial uses. Companies need this Intel to function. Farmers especially.

We shall see, but I've seen congressional Republicans described in two groups. Maga and hate maga. All it takes is three or so. Trump has already lost power in the Senate with the refusal to recess and Gaetz, and it's more than a couple of months before he's sworn in.

As with the last congress, the new one will have very slim margin and Johnson will need Democrats to get anything done.

Members of Congress trade their votes all the time. Hardly something that's new.

If the Senate passes the bill, and if Biden signs (some big ifs) then Trump would have those powers. But, if those "ifs" don't happen the bill is dead and the next Congress will have to vote again.

For example why shouldn't companies be allowed to put lead in food for kids, it's cheap and SCOTUS will ensure you cannot sue the company for it.
