u mean starting a linux vm on my work pc? that's not possible. Workplace services shut those things down completely. Can't install or run anything not blessed by the pope himself.
not gonna lie, i enjoyed Loki... not much tbh... but it was nice to watch while nothing else to do. And i could only enjoy it because i pirated it. Watching it, knowing i paid for it.. would've made me angry
I just watched a video from The Linux Experiment about Linux not being suited for professionals. And for most people Linux is 100% suitable for their day to day work. I completely ditched Windows 2 years ago and never touched it again, but for graphic designers, editors, etc. etc. i think it's not that simple. Work that has to be collaborative with others need programs that let them work together. And in the current times the likes of adobe and autodesk completely dominate the scene and force users to stay with their programs...
This gives so many users another incentive to accept the bullshit of microsoft. I am so happy that i don't need a single program that is windows exclusive - i finally enjoy getting OS updates since i ditched that pile of garbage :-D
i cringe so hard at how pathetic and ridiculous microsoft has become.
Literally the only reason why people still use windows is that everyone else writes their programs for windows. But let's be honest here. Out of the three big OS's (Win, Linux, MacOS) windows is by far the worst. Big developers have to start writing their software for Linux and windows will crumble very fast.
The more important question here is: What are you fighting against here? Like you say that you feel like some snakeoil salesman trying to convince you of something.
But it's FOSS. You can just install it and you're good to go. You don't have to buy any license to get the super duper security features they promise or something.
It's a webui for a homeserver that makes it easier to install docker containers and provides you with some pre-configured security measures and that's it.
As others said, this is clearly made for people who don't want to dig into the whole selfhosting thing too deep but want to have their own data and privacy. And that project accomplishes excatly that.
The "features" they promote are the same "features" everyone has who takes their selfhosted environment serious but automate it. This does things the way the majority of this community does it and gives the power of self host to non-tech-savvy ppl.
Stop being so hateful just because you find their way of promoting their features to be "snakeoilsalesman-y"
Are you sure it has the complete excalidraw stack inside it? And not just the client that connects to the excalidraw servers? Because that's how most applications do it. Nextcloud Addin for Excalidraw is also just the client
