If you're not getting a full text feed for articles try changing your feed app (assuming android). I'm using handy News reader (flymm fork on F-droid). It retrives the full article text for all my feeds.

I'll upvote FairEmail - a good solid email client and nice ui too. Well worth the time investment imho.

Thanks. Can confirm this works well. Nice to see when you do this it gives a list of all the apps that now have support - for me it's Harmony (github) and Spotube (pstor). Now to see what they look like in the car! Many thanks for the info.

I'm pretty new to some of this, did you have to enable these in the car or on the phone?

Pretty sure that's a skill too - probably confuses attackers who try to pre-empt your movements.

Not OP but moved all my stuff onto hosted Nextcloud, so using Nextcloud photos app. Just as good and no ads.

Frost is the one I use (on F-droid). I like the interface.

I'm using nzbgeek to find stuff. Then put the links it returns into eweka - a usenet provider. I'm new to this, so I'm just dipping my toe in to make sure it works. Currently it does but I'm sure there are better deals if you look around.

About reasonable - Proton is ~£45/year - always on (10 users) - hopefully protected.

I have a newsgroup subscription, but a lot of the posts are obfuscated (confused titles that don't make sense) so you can't read the post headers like you can in (say) lemmy or reddit (spit! ) . So I also subscribe to a nzb provider (makes sense of the obfuscated) .

In terms of money it's not too much - like £20/year.

The nzb provider searches the usenet then your newsgroup host downloads what you want.

I'm probably not very clear, and this has been a learning curve for me, but if I can help I will, just ask. It's good fun - especially when it works!

On the 2nd para - IRCHighway, you mentioned a link to set it up. I don't see one - maybe me but can you either: send the link so I see it or dm if you have time? It sounds like something I'd like to follow up on.

A fantastic job is being done by you folks - obviously in the face of adversity. Given the amount of users on the instance is at a critical point, would it not be possible to 'move' accounts off it onto other less populated instances ?

It should take you progressively back up the tree of comments - it does this on my version of Sync. If a solution hasn't already been posted, you could raise a question here. Currently (with Sync) I don't think the option is available - I start new posts using Connect for Lemmy. Good luck.
