  • “That momentum is surely gathering pace in the age of generative AI, which we believe presents a remarkable opportunity to create a new stream of revenues, while allowing us to reduce costs across the business” ...

News Corp recently reduced staffing costs through widespread redundancies.

  • I have a hard time going to sleep. If I have any issues, I try to deal with it before going to sleep. Otherwise it doesn't work.

  • How exciting!

  • Hang out when he's nice. Avoid when he's an ass. People can be temperamental, moody, an ass, or maybe mental (bipolar, for example).

  • It's really an alien AI hiding in your home. You know all the small objects you can't find? It beamed all those up for further study.

  • Accessed data includes voters’ names, addresses, and nonpublic voter information

According to the notice, the personal data accessed by the hackers includes names, email addresses and postal addresses, phone numbers 🖍️ and any correspondence that voters had with the Commission, including emails (more on that below). Voters registered to vote anonymously are not affected by the cyberattack, the Commission confirmed.

The compromised data does, however, include information on voters who opted out of having their information published in the public voter registers, which are available to anyone wanting to purchase.

  • Also, it appears that sometimes, the deletion fails, and the request doesn't get federated, leaving the comment/post orphaned.

  • Yap, hang in there. There are good moments too. Maybe we should concentrate on those.

  • You know of a good read on the Swiss? They have elements of direct democracies. I wonder how that does.

  • And don't forget, the FDIC would give somebody else's back to you, in case there's a run on the bank.

  • If it just suddenly appeared, there's a good chance that I'd run away screaming...

  • No kidding. The email itself is smooth. But now, I bet you would have caught it by the sender, though, the paper mentions using gmail addresses for the from field.

When I was a student, if someone gave me free stuffs, I wouldn't have thought too much about it. People nowadays have to have 0-trust policy for their online comm; this is pretty dystopian.

  • Sorry it's not clear. It's the example phishing letter sent to the student, in the GPT-V-triad email case.

  • I don't think it does, having a flair in a particular sub lends more weight for that sub. I believe some individuals with high karma points tend to be more obnoxious because they don't care that people will downvote them, but I personally experienced only one (which could be just that specific individual.) There are other who wish for tools that'll screen out both low-karma users (spams, etc) and really-high-karma (100K+) users, presumably because of reasons along this line.

Humans often behave differently when they have coveted labels associated with them. Think celebrity, blue-birds, royalties, etc.

  • Hey, look at this Lemmy community that I enjoy, that people seem to give meaningful/fun discussions about the topics at hand.

  • Well, not that I believe in it. Representative democracy. It's like, we have the right to elect representatives, who seem to more often than not represent corporate/money interests, not really the interest of the majority.

    • Claire Woodall-Vogg, the executive director of the Milwaukee Election Commission, was harassed and threatened after an innocuous email exchange with an election consultant was published by conservative news outlets.
    • One of the harassers used ProtonMail, an encrypted email service, to send Woodall-Vogg a threatening email.
    • The FBI acquired data from Proton Technologies, the owner of ProtonMail, to help them identify the anonymous emailer.
    • The FBI was able to find the suspect's identity and conduct a sweep across their internet accounts, but they were not charged with any crimes.
    • Woodall-Vogg said that the harassment has not continued recently.
    • ProtonMail said that they employ several teams to handle instances of abuse on their platform and that they only provide metadata to law enforcement agencies.
    • ProtonMail has received 6,995 orders for data in 2022, of which it contested 1,038.

They said in the past that to retain anonymity, users should use Tor to access the service.
