  • Regarding the steadfast belief that "conservatism is dying": no it isn't. Christian schools, home schools, Christian colleges, and even regular schools, communities and colleges are pumping out kids that have the beliefs of their parents. I live in a rural area, and work (hypocritically) for a Christian based organization. I'm surrounded by young minds that are perfectly comfortable with the ideals of the religious right, and vote.

Society has been saying it for years... We said it when I was back in college. "Bubba in the white house is going to be the best! We'll undo all the hell Reagan and Bush did!" then Newt Gingrich (sounds like a disease...) made his "Promise to America(tm)" and everything got fucked.

  • If you're referring to relatively recent events (like the first 2 years of Biden's term) you need to look no further than Kyrsten Sienema and Joe Manchin. "Democrats" that opposed the agenda (and general Good Things(tm)) for personal greed and lobbying interests. Biden had a majority in the house, and a hostile supreme court, which we're going to be dealing with for a good long time that's to McConnell's fuckery. The defection of Sienema and Manchin made progress very difficult.

It's also harder to get the wider variety of interests in the big tent of left to go in the same direction. Kinda like herding cats.

  • Revanced forums are straight-up toxic. Any setup questions are smugly redirected at the unusable documentation, as you pointed out. For some reason, there's an elitist attitude in that group.

  • The New Teams(tm) is much better about resource utilization (on pc anyway) - like by 60% both active (video conference) and whilst idle (background).

Not trying to simp for MS or anything, the previous version was a shitshow. It really did everything my company needed for HIPAA compliant communication, but damn, did it suck ass doing it. New Teams is supposed to be the default for all instances March '24.

  • Setting aside the conflation of "5 minutes" to "5 seconds" for a bit just to say: setting up ReVanced is a gigantic pain in the ass. I've only ever been on the android platform. I've sideloaded apps. Also been in the technology industry for almost 3 decades. The documentation is dog shit. The official user forum r/revanced, (iirc) is a fucking circlejerk. Their own faq and top pinned "definitive install guide" post is out of date and just plain wrong. Down thread, whenever someone has questions (inevitably, because the documentation is fucked (see previous)), some smarmy asshat has the audacity to direct the confused newb to the same flawed docs.

I swear, fanatics are their own worst enemies. Now, I'm not saying you're a fanatic. But sideloading that app in 5 mins (or seconds, depending on which sentence you're relying on)? Yeah, bullshit.

  • I've been using Sync since The Great Exodus. One feature I like is the "everything across the fediverse" view, but I'm not seeing that so readily in Connect.

Edit: oh, and thanks BTW for the link. Foggy brain searching for just "connect" didn't work so good.

  • Expand that to: "stuff that keeps you separated from the ground". Tires fall in that category. If you live where it snows and don't have good mass transit, get snow tires, and otherwise rotate, inflate and take care of your tires, and they'll take care of you.

  • The moment of inertia on that upper deck is going to snap those seats like a twig. While I'm sure there's airline execs foaming at the mouth and lobbyists pushing wheelbarrows of money, I'll drive before I get in one of those.

Also, more passengers plus less overhead bin storage means less cargo hold capacity, meaning air cargo (a valuable income stream, particularly on transcontinental or transoceanic flights, where the widebodies would be most used) would be cut back by more checked bags. And more discontent by pax that now have to pay for checked bag fees.

I dunno, I just don't see the benefits.
