  • Oh suck rocks. There's one party that does try to pass legislation that helps people, that is better for the environment, better allocations of spending priorities, and generally aren't fucking cartoon villains.

    And it ain't the Republicans.

Being mad that things weren't done the way we Think They Should Be(tm) and dismissing the realization that geopolitics is an extremely complex system is childish. Throwing temper tantrums, threatening to take your toys and go home because you didn't get your way is childish.

There are many factions to appease in the US electorate, particularly on the left. And while I personally feel like Israel should have been cut off decades ago which may have saved hundreds of thousands of lives, there are a lot more who feel differently. Am I going to hold that against the group that aligns with the majority of my aspirations even if they are stymied by christofacists at every turn? FUCK NO.

  • dictatorships, free market capitalism and feudalism are some of the worst culprit's.

Agree. Thinking about it, the romantic in me wants to believe that the best system was probably the small indigenous tribal units. Collective social goals, group welfare, close-knit often matriarch families, conservation mindset...

A bit hard to pull off in the 21st century world though. :/

  • It's painfully apparent you have a fundamental lack of understanding of how the CCP works in relation to companies in China. Or how they behave on the world stage outside of your ech chamber. If they operate in a critical sector, they are controlled by the CCP. I mean, you do accept that the CCP is an oppressive, authoritarian regime, right? If you don't accept that, then we can't carry on because you're not in the same reality or arguing in bad faith.

And before the defense: "but they're really capitalists" - yeah, so what? Errybody greedy. Still doesn't change that the CCP is an authoritarian regime. I have the feeling that no matter what, you're going to move the goalposts because, I dunno, America bad? (and yeah, we've got a lot to account for and I'm no 'merica cheerleader). And no amount of evidence will sway you.

May you have the day you deserve.

  • It may be simplistic, but the short version of what you seem to be saying at the beginning is: "every '-ism' is inherently neutral until people get involved."

Which is why I believe no system that is conceived by humans will ever be not exploited.

  • They're associating it with your debit/credit card, unless you're buying with cash only. Also, the "identity" isn't so much the target as the "profile". Don't get me wrong, if they are able to personally identify you, the communication will be much more... personalized... (good english) - mailings, texts, emails and coupons for stuff either you've bought or adjacent to your stuff (with better margins for the store) addressing you by name, grouped with other purchase-history items. But back to the profile: building a profile of your likes, dislikes, brands and such is valuable data that gets more $ for corporate as the fidelity gets higher. And as it does, the messaging to you gets more targeted.

  • There was a time where there were many sites on the internet; hundreds, thousands even. And someone could search for content in topics they were interested in and find discussions in forums. I hope the internet becomes that again and sites like reddit burn to the ground, their servers salted to never grow again.

The world recovered from the burning of Alexandria, and it would recover from the death of reddit. And from the rumbling of their new ad injection schemes, the sooner the better.

  • And nothing of value was lost. While I've railed against the unwarranted mass data collection by the NSA and other 3-letter agencies via US carriers and app creators, Tik-Tok is controlled by a foreign adversary that is actively engaging in cyber attacks and has been shown to have far-reaching data collection capacities.

People can be mad about the US policies and celebrate the banning of Tik-Tok at the same time.

  • It's a pretty selfish take. The US is (iirc) the largest economy on the planet. We take an absurd amount for granted and our standard of living compared to the vast majority of the world is insane. And yes - we've built it on the backs of damn near every culture on the planet. We deserve to give up aid to other nations. It is the least we can do. And frankly, this is a drop in the federal budget. Almost a rounding error. And even more, the majority of the money is gonna come right back into our economy because guess what - those weapons and ammo are going to be bought from _U. S. _ defense contractors.
