  • Like others have said, it helps me to get out the pent up tension. I can’t usually afford to go to a dark place while interacting with others, but in my car I can put on Mudvayne or something moody like Deftones and indulge the emotion.

  • Assuming the “We” you’re talking about is “The US government”, one of the big reasons a country like the US doesn’t punish bad behavior is competition.

Just like companies compete for your business, nation states compete for companies that increase GDP. I believe the US is afraid that if they tax companies, those companies will choose to leave the US instead of simply cleaning up their bad behavior.

  • Sounds like they took it down to improve it?

"We are working to incorporate feedback and are currently researching more effective provenance techniques for text, and have made a commitment to develop and deploy mechanisms that enable users to understand if audio or visual content is AI-generated," OpenAI wrote.

  • Highly recommend “The Expanse” series of books. Really great story, really great characters, and some moderately heavy topics. Good books to get lost in.

I also recommend CS Lewis’ space trilogy which starts with “Out of the Silent Planet”. Very accessible but well-written sci-fi that’s not nearly as long as other traditional Sci-Fi.

Heinlein is also all wonderful (Starship Troopers is a goodie that’s very different than the movie).

  • Went back for like a day after my main amount on v.lemmy went down with the server.

After a day I couldn’t stomach it anymore. Reddit All is just a bunch of warzone footage or clickbait news.

I created a new main on a new Lemmy server and am loving being here.

  • I’m not denying climate change. I was recently in Florida and it is, indeed, hot af.

The article is saying that there’s evidence that the heat is causing coral to die. They really don’t know the extent of the impact.

Vague article titles are just a pet peeve of mine. This whole article could have been summed up in less than 3 sentences.

    Quote:

That would mean “significant and severe” bleaching will start in the next week and the coral could start to die altogether within a month, he said.

“It still remains to be seen if this event is going to be more or less severe than previous events,” Manzello said. “However, all of the evidence right now is pointing to the fact that it’s going to be one of the more severe events we’ve seen.”
