  • It’s a shame because your feelings are right, and I believe it’s exactly what conservative American politicians want everyone to think.

I don’t know what the long game of the US ruling class is, but I do believe it’s for the US to be isolated from its neighbors and (former) allies.

  • After the announcement of tariffs, world markets saw Canada and China’s markets drop a couple points and the US’s surged a couple of points.

If you knew that market shift was coming and had a few billion in international markets and sold while the US surged, you made a shitload of money (at least, “shitload of money” from my perspective, because I’m a poorsie).

  • And the bugs were (usually) reliable, so if you found a workaround on your own or just avoided causing the bug, you would get a consistent experience.

Now it feels like each deployment ends up breaking something new.

  • Yeah, the convenience of everyone having internet has shortened development cycles and meant everything is shipped with less testing and is available for constant rework/improvement.

It’s really nice sometimes to admire early software because of how cobbled-together it was and would still work well-enough.

  • Upvoted because I think this is a common perspective. My comment below is for anyone else out there who may feel the same way as you do.

Being a passenger may cause less anxiety, but if safety is your biggest concern, driving yourself is the safest option to get around currently (besides bus/train transport or walking).

Driving is all about strategy. I’ll be transparent and say that it is not a “safe” activity, but I’ll also say that riding in a car driven by someone else is likely less safe than educating yourself on good driving strategy and taking your safety (and the safety of your passengers) into your own hands.

Driving defensively and using good vehicular communication will put you as a driver above 9/10s of the other drivers out there. That 1/10th leftover could hit you as a driver or passenger, but as a passenger, you have no recourse when you see them coming.

  • I dig this — sometimes you just want to do a little “adventure”. I’ve never not ate for a week, but have done similar things.

Just wanted to ask about eating disorder because I’ve had friends who’ve done similar things and it always makes me sad.
