  • A quick stop over by Aruba would be pretty. I've also heard good things about Martinique. I haven't been to either myself yet. I heard that Aruba also has a huge Carnival celebration, so that season around February would be super fun.

  • .ee is quite chill. Mods on communities don't really seem to do the ban hammer like the explicitly left instances do.

But there is content there isn't allowed, but I don't really consider that censorship

  • I would do option 3, both as a user and if I were to make my own service. I'd let a dedicated image service do it. I'm not worried about IP leakage and if I am I can use a VPN. If I want to be that concerned about it, I think the responsibility is on me, not on the service unless they promise that level of privacy.

I vote for what gives the best experience for users and makes running the service easier and cost effectivem

  • Oh, you're a person. My bad. I thought with so many posts in such a short time that it was a bot.

Edit: it's not a big deal. There's a setting to mark an account as a bot. So I was more looking for that.

Edit 2. Here's where I got the number from

  • You'd think, but maybe not. One thing that China does is it's really strict on not letting people bring money out of the country. I have friends that have money back home that they can't get out of the country.

The main reason for that is that when the gov't opens that up, billions start flowing out of the country really fast. So, if you leave, you're leaving your money behind.

  • It's nice. There are different scents. You use your finger to rub just a tiny bit off and apply it. The smells are good. I'd say it's a bit harder to over-apply. And it's in a much smaller package, so easier to transport.

  • I see these things all over Latin America and stayed at a bunch of places that have them. It can get SUPER hot. The cool thing about them is that the pipes that heat the water are vacuum sealed and don't heat the water directly. I forget the exact mechanics of it, but it pretty much doesn't matter what the temperature is. It can take that solar energy and add it to water.

  • I was thinking the community could show you which ones it federated with and you could have a selection for which ones you want. Something like

    This community federated with:
    .ml | hexbear | .world

    • [] .ml
    • world
(I can't get check boxes right)

But that's more of an implementation thing and could be done client side

  • To respond to questions about implementation, I was thinking something along the lines of communities are federated with each other.

    Some workflows:
    Posting
I want to make a post to c/tech, so I post on tech@lemm.ee, my post then gets federated to the other instance and shows up there. (Servers would want to add de-duping for people who are subbed to both)

    Deleting my post
Similar to above, it gets marked as deleted on both

    Mod action:
Mod on lemm.ee removes my post, the event and reason get federated. The other instance could be set up to follow the action or have a mod action to do anything with it.

But anyway, for now I'll try to see if there's a way to group communities, but I don't think Sync for lemmy has that.

The reason I was thinking this is because this part of federation actually makes things harder. And then there's the aspect of "where do you post this", bc sometimes the community is bigger on another instance, so you cross post just because it's essentially the same thing, just somewhere else.
