  • I've been really enjoying the Proton suite of mail, drive, and VPN. Don't use proton pass because I have to log in to sites from locked-down systems too often, but the aliases tool in Proton Mail is great.

(Not a paid shill, I pay proton because I want to get away from Google)

  • Here in the Land of the Free, we may not have cheap healthcare, a real democracy, safety in schools, unrestricted book access, or affordable housing...

But at least we get free chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants. Oh and free water in restaurants.

  • Personally, that's exactly what's happening to me. I've seen enough that AI can't be trusted to give a correct answer, so I don't use it for anything important. It's a novelty like Siri and Google Assistant were when they first came out (and honestly still are) where the best use for them is to get them to tell a joke or give you very narrow trivia information.

There must be a lot of people who are thinking the same. AI currently feels unhelpful and wrong, we'll see if it just becomes another passing fad.

  • Yeah, I would prefer not to use Google, so I'm going to figure out how to use another authenticator. I wish Proton had the ability to be an authenticator, but I haven't seen a way to do that yet.

But all my family has a Google account, so it just makes things easier.

  • I enjoy a lot of these long-form critiques. I literally spent the whole 4 hours to watch that 4 hour critique of Galactic Star cruiser by Jenny Nicholson.

Not all the long critiques are good, but some of them really are great.

I also watch upwards of 3 hours speedruns of the Fallout series so...

I just got this working today and can say it's quite an elegant solution. It means anyone with a Google account (that I allow through Cloudflare settings) can take advantage of immich. I plan to be the storage server for my family so they can have automatic photo backups.

If you decide to go that route and have questions, hit me up. I spent a while troubleshooting issues caused by not creating a SaaS application in Cloudflare, so read the directions exactly.

  • You can't activate malware by restarting your system. There's no reason why an attacker would wait for a restart to do what they want to do.

What can happen is that restarting doesn't help fix anything related to malware if the malware has been written to gain persistence. It'll edit the registry so that it can run on startup, so restarting your system makes no difference.

  • For a big catering meal, it could possibly be better than paying with a credit card because I often see those without interest.

But most of the time, you're paying it off in 6 weeks anyway so the difference is negligible.
