  • can you imagine the complexity of designing, implementing and renovating a sewer system in a historical millenia-old city built on water?

While I have limited knowledge about the exact construction of Venice. I'd imagine localised aerobic septic systems would be a tolerable solution. The water coming out of those will have a slight mildewy/musty smell to it but is (allegedly) potable.

  • Focal length and aperture both affect how much focus matters.

Also with most regular cameras, from what I've heard they actually have their max focus slightly past infinity to account for thermal expansion so the general advice for doing astrophotography is to focus on the subject, not just whacking it to infinity.

  • Yeah I know plenty of chenese stuff ignores it. I forget where it's said but countertop appliances are supposed to be 3' cords and others are supposed to have 6' cords. And then in houses you're supposed to have plugs at those distances so people usually shouldn't need extension cords.

  • There's a recent Veritasium video on it. The water helps because of the Mammalian Dive Reflex. The guy he's doing the video with says basically getting over that first instinct to breathe is the worst and then after that your body makes more adjustments and quits complaining as much.

  • Also if you can overcome the urge, you'll successfully hold it a lot longer than you think you could without passing out. Especially if under water. The record is 24 minutes and 37 seconds.

Though to go that long you have to minimise the amount of energy your body is using even down to your thoughts so your brain uses less.

  • My grandpa has a Vanagon but it's in kinda rough shape.

Body is pretty good but the interior is pretty much gone and it has electrical grimlins so it either starts and drives perfectly or just screams at you doesn't even attempt to start.

    Super cool vehicle though.

  • Just about the best way to do it for an external 'combustion' heat engine. Stirling engines can be used in some cases but in most cases steam ends up being the better option.

We spent centuries getting really good at using steam for getting work out of 'hot thing'.
