Their hardware has been, with few exceptions, very nice. It's sad to see they're embracing the enshittification with such gusto on the software side... I mean, it was always bloated, even when they made BREW phones, but this is a whole nuther level.
Having worked in the industry at that time, there were 2 main reasons they did it like that
batteries were quite unreliable and failed often
mfgrs couldn't afford to have one year warranties and send out field replacement units for a battery
And the reasons they stopped doing it..
batteries got better
battery contact failure was higher than battery failure.
replaceable batteries compromise waterproofing
I think they should still be replacible, but they should have better connectors that are sealed off from the rest of the device. It costs a tiny bit more to do that engineering though.
I don't know if it's even borrowing, really. If you borrow my drill, I can't use it. If you torrent a movie... Like... You're seeding, and more people can use it!
Inhumane prison conditions, disproportionate impact on the poor, the use of prison (slave) labor, long term impact on inmates, private prison profit motives, lack of focus on rehabilitation, and solitary confinement may possibly refute your last statement.
Voting alone will not get us out of this situation. Maybe implementing rank choice of voting might do it. I just don't see good solutions because the politicians were all about sold anyway it doesn't matter which one gets voted in, voters never get the final say.
Agreed. I'm no cultural expert, but it really does seem like they put our oligarchy to shame with their level of roughshod running.
