Well said. I had a similar experience. I was very impressed by the production value great models, textures, amazing digital recreation of Hogwarts.
Unfortunately, the game drags on and it's filled with Ubisoft-style chores.
Instead of mainlining the story, I decided to get lost in the world, do side quests and explore. It was fun for a while - a long while - but then begun wearing thin. I was ready to wrap up the adventure and finish the game when I realized I'm maybe 60% through only.
Put it away for later and haven't touched it again in months...
Calling Peter Molyneux a scammer is rather unfair. He does not set out to cheat you out of your money. He's simply a game designer that once was one of most brilliant talents in the industry, trying to capture the muse again.
It is an undisputed fact that most of his recent projects massively over promised and undelivered. It's an unfortunate truth that his claims cannot be trusted anymore.
That said, there is no malice behind it. Simply ambition that's not matched by ability to deliver.
I keep hoping Molyneux will once again succeed in one of his projects. It would be glorious, and it would shift gaming landscape, just like his old works did. At the same time, I'm no longer expecting it to happen, and certainly not getting invested emotionally or financially in any of his promises.
Pixel Junk: Eden by Q-Games. Available on PlayStation and PC, it's a platformer of sorts. You play as a little insect, swinging on a silk line and jumping from plant to plant. On the way, you collect pollen which makes new plants sprout and grow.
The game was made in collaboration with Bayion - a Japanese designer, artist and DJ, who art directed the visuals and composed all of the music for the game.
Playing Eden feels a bit like Tetris Effect or Rez. You get hypnotized by the visuals and music. Nothing quite like it - I actually bought my first console (PS3) after lifetime of PC gaming in order to play this title (it was exclusive back then).
