    Hah, didn’t see that coming.

legally protecting your brain fart on Lemmy is a new one

It does feel a little “sovereign citizen”-y, but I’m guessing based on the general sentiment around here that they want to discourage scraping Lemmy for LLM training data. It’s an… interesting… tactic though, as I would imagine most instances give themselves exclusive control over content licensing. I’m kind of curious how copyright would be applied in a federated network, though: would instances apply a license to incoming data, leaving other instances with the responsibility of defederating from them if they don’t agree with the license, or would the instance apply a license to outgoing data, forcing other instances to either comply or defederate?

  • I would love to agree with you, and OC is certainly important to us, but the majority of the most upvoted content on Reddit hasn’t been OC for quite a few years now. I would guess Reddits serves most of its ads to people doom-scrolling the front page, and it probably likes it that way.

  • It isn’t as good because Rosetta 2 exploits some custom features built into the their M processors. Specifically, there is a special mode that strengthens the memory model, which is critical for both performance and correctness when it comes to executing multithreaded x86 programs on ARM.

  • Let me preface this by admitting that I’m not a camera expert. That being said, some of the claims made in this article don’t make sense to me.

A sensor effectively measures the sum of the light that hits each photosite over a period of time. Assuming a correct signal gain (ISO) is applied, this in effect becomes the arithmetic mean of the light that hits each photosite.

When you split each photosite into four, you have more options. If you simply take the average of the four photosites, the result should in theory be equivalent to the original sensor. However, you could also exploit certain known characteristics of the image as well as the noise to produce an arguably better image, such as by discarding outlier samples or by using a weighted average based on some expectation of the pixel value.

  • More important is originality...

Is it, though? I left Reddit for here, so don’t take this as being in their defense, but if originality and ad revenue were meaningfully correlated, Facebook and Instagram would be bastions of original content.

Hell, some of the most profitable YouTubers only post reaction content.

  • I agree Florida is probably a lost cause, but making a policy decision based on that alone isn’t how you win the game American politicians are forced to play.

“What would turn red?”, is one question that must be asked, and assuming Florida is a lost cause, the answer may well be “nothing”. But an equally important question is, “What would turn blue?”, and unfortunately, I would guess the answer is also “nothing”. Conservative Texans would be stoked to get help from Mexico at the border, but they’re not gonna vote for Biden over it. It also wouldn’t surprise me if being “soft on Cuba” is still a losing position among several Dem bases, especially older neoliberals.

  • Using that and his room phone

    Did you read the article?

Kurtaj still managed to carry out an attack on Rockstar Games by using the room’s included Amazon Fire Stick and a “newly purchased smart phone, keyboard and mouse,” according to a separate BBC report.

  • I literally just quoted the article. Which side are you on? Is Western media trustworthy or not???

we only started sending untrained conscripts with one rifle per two men as a joke!

Ha, yeah, it’s wild that that’s happening. I don’t expect the last two thirds to be… competent, or well-equipped, FWIW.

  • Every Russian bot says that though, but then they start saying 'oh actually Western media is all lies and glorious Russia is totally winning the war!'

Lucky for you, I don’t believe that either.

Let me guess, it actually says that Russia is totally winning and actually not getting humiliated by Ukraine?

No, it doesn’t; Russia is getting humiliated by Ukraine. But it also says they’ve expended only about 1/3 of their armed forces:

Of the 360,000 troops that made up Russia’s pre-invasion ground force, including contract and conscript personnel, Russia has lost 315,000 on the battlefield, according to the assessment. 2,200 of 3,500 tanks have been lost, according to the assessment. 4,400 of 13,600 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers have also been destroyed, a 32 percent loss rate.

Before the invasion, Russia had a total standing military of approximately 900,000 active-duty troops, including ground troops, airborne troops, special operations and other uniformed personnel, according to the CIA. Since the start of the invasion, Russia has announced plans to increase the size of the armed forces to 1.5 million. The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced several rounds of conscription, including its regular fall conscription cycle on October 1.

  • You're starting to sound like a Russian bot...

Well, considering that I very much support U.S. aid for Ukraine, I think I would be a pretty bad one.

    Edit:

What about this story that says Russia has lost 87 percent of its troops?

That’s not what the article says, silly goose

  • That sounds like a Kremlin talking point

Really? Because it seems like Russia would be more incentivized to have westerners believe that Ukraine will be just fine without U.S. aid.

There's a reason they've been fighting with shovels and rocks since then.

You know that’s not literally true right? Otherwise Ukrainian casualties would be in the single digits…

Is it possible you could spell out exactly what you think the U.S. and Ukraine should do? I genuinely cannot tell what point you’re trying to make here.
