  • My 4.8kg cat is very fractious for vet visits, so the vet originally suggested 100mg gabapentin 2 hours before his appointment. Since that wasn't enough to relax him adequately, for his next visit, they increased the dosage to 150mg, which still didn't do the trick. Next, they suggested adding a dose the night before, but it wasn't until we got to 200mg gabapentin the night before, plus another 200mg the morning of, that he finally mellowed out juuuust enough that they could examine him.

  • Currently unemployed, so I can't exactly remember, but I used to launch a call with just myself. By default, that will change your status to "in a call", but I believe you can override it and set it to available. Alternatively, a mouse jiggler is around $20.

  • I could definitely see that! Was there a significant gap of time between when you first encountered that spelling vs. when you learned that it was a regional variation? I'm pretty sure the first time I came across "tyre", it was on an internet forum, and by the time I was reading the thread, there were arguments & explanations about it, so I learned immediately.

  • Probably not technically slang, and maybe not even technically British, but I hate the all variations of "whinge". I know it's a real word, but it always feels like someone misspelling "whine". I was well into adulthood when I finally learned that though, so those feelings are just so ingrained in me at this point.

Thanks for listening to me whine.

  • And here, I thought maybe it was a joke about all the stuff people deleted during the API drama, or maybe a joke about all the stuff getting removed in recent times, but nope, just good old ml censorship.

  • Oh wow! I'm currently fostering a litter with a colorpoint, and at 2 weeks she was just starting to show some hints of color. She's about 4 weeks now and her nose & ears still aren't that dark. This is her at about 2.5 weeks.

  • The only communities that I still regularly browse on Reddit are the regional communities for the place I live currently and places I've lived previously. Those seem to have little to no activity around here. I no longer participate in them on Reddit, only lurk.

  • I believe I technically still have an account, but I have no clue what the password is, and I'm not about to give up more personal information just to delete it. I haven't used my FB account in years, and it was actually created for me by some friends back when Tinder still required a FB account.

There's also an IG account out there that I did create for myself more recently, but also haven't used in many years, and again, deleting the account feels like too much effort when I can just continue not using it.

I mostly try to avoid clicking any links to content on their platforms, but unfortunately a lot of people/businesses only exist on those platforms, plus some other volunteer work I do kinda requires it, so I do begrudgingly click them sometimes. Thankfully my closest friends have learned to send screenshots instead.

  • Probably because the bulk of the products tested were likely kids toothpastes.

Lead Safe Mama community members nominate products for laboratory testing and then the LSM community uses crowd-funding (including through GoFundMe) to raise the funds to cover the costs related to testing and reporting of these nominated products. This is how the toothpaste and tooth powder products listed in the chart below were chosen for testing, and how the testing and reporting was paid for.

  • The vibration on one of my phones is so weak that I basically never feel or hear it, including when the phone is in the pocket of my leggings (so pressed against my thigh) or sitting on my wood coffee table. I can't find an option in the settings to adjust the vibration intensity.

  • Yeah, the low cost spay/neuter clinics around me are booked solid and have been for years. I had to book mine 2 or 3 months out, and it wasn't even a true "low cost" clinic.

Looking at pricing at regular vet clinics, spay can be $500-700, and there's extra fees if she happens to be in heat or pregnant when your appointment finally rolls around, and it's not clear from my brief search whether those prices include anesthesia, pre-op blood work, etc. The low cost clinics range from free to $120 for spay.

  • Awesome! Indoors will help a lot to keep them warm and safe from predators and disease. In my region, most rescues say they have a minimum 2 week lead time to accept any new animals, so if you're able to get in touch now and let them know you're willing to foster them until they're ready for spay/neuter, that often helps a lot to secure a spot in their program, and they might even provide you some supplies.

Sounds to me that you might be a great addition to the local foster team, and then you could take in new kittens once the current ones are ready for homes!

  • I have a little family of 3 kittens right now also! :) Mine are fosters and probably about 2.5 weeks old.

Have you helped raise kittens before? Since they have their moms, it will hopefully be pretty easy and pure joy for you, but things can still go wrong, and it can happen super quickly, so it's great to have some emergency supplies on hand. Do you already have spay/neuter arranged for all of them? Happy to help any way I can!
