  • I find this kind of reporting very important, as it highlights the ways in which Ukrainian society has improved, but also what still needs improvement. I hope articles like this are encouraging to those that fight in Ukraine for a more just and accepting society. Meanwhile in Russia, the only reports we get from there is that the murder-rate of ex-prisoners has spiked 900%.

  • What avenues of escalation are left to Putin? 80% of his army is tied up in Ukraine, the rest is needed for border patrol. All russian men that would join the army voluntarily have already joined, so a big mobilization would see the support for the war plummet. And after that, all that is left is the big N word. And there are plenty of reasons why Putin doesn't want to use those.

On the other hand, letting Ukraine lose will lead to much more instability in the future.

Edit: above comment accused 'lefties' of wanting WW3.

  • But haven't you heard? The US has already committed LITERAL BILLIONS to Ukraine, and what did it get us? Nothing! Just imagine if that money would've been spent here! We could have spent it on schools Some poor CEO could've had fat bonuses! Maybe we could've cancelled the medical debt of 100 people We could've spent more on covering up environmental damage without doing anything against the companies that caused that damage.

I tell you, if we wouldn't have spent that money on Ukraine, we could've medicare for all, student loan forgiveness, functioning infrastructure and a sane republican party. But because we spent those billions on Ukraine, sadly, we had to budget a little and got none of the above. If only we still had that money, all of our woes would be over!

  • Also, just because Ukraine loses the traditiobal war, doesn't mean that the fighting will stop.
Also also, what greater threat to european peace and stability is there than a bunch of former allies, who are battle-hardened, traumatized, right next to EU borders and are feeling betrayed by their 'western partners'?
A russia-funded network of right-wing parties, aimed at breaking up the european union, recently invigorated by their success of stopping a unified response to russia's invasion.
