  • I also have a Rode PSA1 and it's great, but it's perfectly acceptable to get one that's half or even a 3rd of the price of the PSA1 and still have it work just fine. A USB mic would probably also be better considering price. (Yes, I know it makes upgrading cheaper, but OP said they need a mic and that price was a major factor)

  • You can make any set of studio headphones wireless with a little Bluetooth DAC. I got the FiiO BTR3K which I'm super happy with, but there are other options to consider if you like.

  • +1 for Beyedynamic. I have a pair of DT 770 Pros that have lasted so long. I use them so much the ear cups went flat, so I just replaced them for like £15 and they're literally as good as new.

OP, if you take one thing away from this thread, make it this: Good audio equipment stays good.

  • I built my Q6 a few months ago as it's one of the only full-size ISO boards I could find. It's real nice.

  • I can't decide which I like more, AVIF or JXL. If you'd have asked me last month I would have said AVIF, but as I'm reading more about JXL I'm liking it a lot!

  • If that's a problem for you, do you also fall for the fake virus alert scams? It's very easy to tell them apart. Plus, muscle memory doesn't apply here since you can just swing your mouse to the top left of the screen and click. No vision is even needed. That's what muscle memory is.

  • Confusingly, XL doesn't stand for "eXtra Large". JPEG has had multiple standards over the years, many of which start with X. In this context, the L in XL means Long-term. As in, they expect this format to last a long time like the original JPEG we all know and "love" has.

  • I feel like this answer is somewhat warranted because OP seems to have already made up their mind that it's bad. They referred to it as a "plague" and "filthy" despite not knowing what it even is. This comes across as a lack of interest in the actual answer and more just using this post as a platform to rant about it (despite knowing nothing about it).

It's not unreasonable to ask everyone here to word their questions politely (or at least neutrally). This is somewhat aggressive, so I think an equally aggressive answer is perfectly suitable.

  • Weird. WebP works for me in Discord just fine, both on desktop and mobile. It's all just Chromium under the hood after all (unless it's an iPhone, in which case it's probably Safari)

  • The first language I learned is C# and it sparked that interest that got me the job I'm in now!

I see other people recommending Python for beginners because of the simpler syntax (the way you write the code) but I'd still recommend C# because although the learning curve is a little steeper you'll find it MUCH easier to learn pretty much any other language you choose. And even if you don't choose to learn another language, you'll still know a good (and fast) general-purpose language!

  • At least you didn't choose Welsh towns or lakes in Massachusetts...

  • I like the name of the 2nd NAS because you can say "I'm just gonna chuck these files into the abyss"

  • Same thing with high frame rate monitors. They just slap a bunch of motion blur on the 60hz image and call it a day.

Though in their defense, it's not easy to illustrate framerate in a still image.

  • I've had a very pleasant experience every time I've talked to Steam Support. What's so bad about them?

  • I'd like to start selling things that I 3D print, but finding buyers will probably be difficult. Not to mention that if you try and sell prints of free models you find online then you'll just be selling what other people are probably already selling, so it's a race to the bottom regarding the price you can charge.

  • I tend to name mine after their physical appearance, though I'm leaning towards space-related names now.

I'll copy a Discord message I sent someone while explaining my naming scheme:

in chronological order: my very old laptop was black and grey so it was Batman my first build had orange/gold fans so it was Aurum my next build was black and white so it was Mono my current build had lots of RGB so it was Nova (like supernova) my home server has the BitFenix wings logo so it was Flight my laptop is sleek and pretty speedy so it was Comet

  • Even so, 100 a month is better than a kick in the teeth. Plus, depending on the time-sensitivity of the articles, it could be a source of slight passive income.
