mastodon can do default instances because they have the account migration process… i totally agree this is a great solution: get people in with sane defaults, and then let people move once they know how it works
there will be plenty of people that don’t move (or maybe that’s solvable too: analyse your toots and suggest a more niche instance after 2mo?) but i’m not sure that’s a huge problem if your “default instance” is more of a random choice from a list of sane defaults
it’s kinda vaguely similar though… a fediverse instance is moderated by the instance admins, just like a discord server (though discord has a level of admin above server mod/admin i’m not sure that distinction matters for the general user)
colour temperature is only changeable when you “mix” other colours in: usually you have cold white and warm white LEDs and you mix them to get whatever temp you want
for commercial, i doubt they’d double the LEDs so you could adjust them… the name of the game in commercial lighting is buy what you need, buy it cheap, and don’t pay for things you won’t use
i’d guess they could hyper optimise for “perceived difference” rather than data loss specifically… they do a pretty good job of generating something from nothing, so i’d say with enough data they’d probably generate a pretty reasonable facsimile of “standard” stuff
at the very least constant whip-lash from changes might see ISPs not being able to sign long-term contracts and businesses not being able to plan around availability of things like “fast lanes”, which might make them uncommon even if net neutrality keeps getting repealed
they probably wouldn’t even try and hide it: they’d literally just come out and say the electoral college helps keep the democrats out and they’d vote for it
nobody should do this… the west does, and that’s also shit… right now, this is the event that we’re talking about though and citing the west is just whataboutism
we shouldn’t stop striving for better just because the world is in unfair place… historically, things have gotten better and we can’t let doomerism slow us down
hope and work for a better world, but live in the current one
edit: i guess the yet wasn’t anything specific… just things get better, and some day maybe we will be able to right some wrongs, or maybe let bygones be bygones… who knows
it’s kinda exactly the same as someone on the street handing you a bit of paper with a rumour on it and you publishing it without checking that it’s correct
we worry because the single thing that every world war has taught us is that you are never prepared for the horror of war
we worry because no matter what, people die: its irrelevant where they’re from… we worry because people are people whether they’re american, russian, french, german, north korean, chinese, indian, or canadian and a lot of those people will die in a world wor
we worry because world food supplies will be disrupted and some of our most vulnerable people will die
there are so many reasons to worry, and worry helps avert a war that should never happen
we have plenty of solutions to this though… we have quantum-safe encryption
afaik how these work is that currently cracking encryption is CPU-bound (takes a lot of CPU resources to find the key) which quantum can do much faster… there are classes of encryption that are RAM-bound though, which mean that quantum still can’t crack them because it doesn’t give us huge amounts of storage
yup! you can only post 2:20 vids so often you link out to a longer vid anyway, but it’s good to just scroll through a few vids… new stuff all the time
you can post to pornhub/OF/JFF but a bunch of my friends post too and it’s much better to be able to have a reasonable social platform attached to it for RT and replies
legitimately: i make and consume gay porn and it’s easily the best place to post for my exhibitionism fetish, despite all the bullshit which hasn’t effected that niche use-case all that much
