  • Would that work for literally anything we/nations use government for though?

"The government won't prevent companies polluting the environment, so just assume it's every individual citizen's responsibility" "the gov won't ensure food is safe to eat, so just follow these tiktok channels because it's ultimately your responsibility to know what companies are putting in the food you eat" or "the gov won't protect consumers from unfair business practices so just don't support companies that are have a monopoly in your area" (this last one clearly ain't working and consumers clearly can't do anything; thinking of Comcast or Ticketmaster here). Personally, I think the EPA, FDA and antitrust laws are as necessary as any other basic laws (along with people to enforce those laws).

People making the claim that we don't need government intervention, or saying private citizens should be held responsible, for government-sanctioned practices are either delusional/willfully ignorant or fake actors trying to shift responsibility from the government which literally has the power to enact legislation.

Imo, the biggest responsibility citizens have is to hold their government accountable. Most Americans legit think all politicians are evil and stupid which really just goes to show that they can't tell the difference between someone trying to fight for companies to pay fair overtime/holiday pay and someone fighting for us to invest in another war err I mean defense

  • I don't think you understood my comment. Sorry I wasn't clearer

I wasn't referencing the UI at all. I was specifically referring to the feeling of revulsion. I personally get that feeling whenever windows rolls out something new

I'm definitely not shilling for the new UI or all the fuckin ads, that's for sure. lol

  • Uh I did. That was the whole point of my comment. I made a comparison to the situation going on in Israel. Why did you reply to my comment if you don't care what I'm talking about and don't care to understand?

That's a rhetorical question. I'm blocking you now because you're being disrespectful and I don't care enough to educate you or satisfy your need for attention

  • If they were justifying slavery because a few dudes killed some kids?

Uhh.. I don't think you understoood what I wrote.

I'm specifically saying it doesn't matter how many kids one mob of people killed in comparison to the sanctioning and proliferation of chattel slavery for the sole purpose of increasing profits for a few wealthy white men.

Personally, if someone told me 'yeah, slavery was bad but there was this one group of slaves that killed a bunch of kids so actually slavery was kinda justified.' Well, I'd have to disagree and I'd tell them to stop talking to me. And then I'd think what a ......... (censored so I don't get banned)

  • I totally get that. I'm not saying it's cool or anything. I'm specifically saying if we use that relatively minor **retaliation ** as justification to be 10x worse or 1000x worse then it almost doesn't matter what the they did because it's not even comparable.

I'll be honest, personally, of all the American history I've learned I couldn't care less about what the group led by Nat Turner did to the group literally led by the various presidents of the US. It barely registers. It's more like random gang violence driven by ignorant, emotional passion, where as what Americans were doing was legit calculated genocide (destroying culture, in this case, since obviously they were still breading people for profit) - it was done methodically and done to maximize profits and political power.

  • I'm with you on violence bad, but if you were to consider Nat Turner's rebellion, where many enslaved Africans escaped their captors and murdered white Americans (including women and children), as justification for slave owning Americans being unjustly brutal towards Africans and prohibiting them from learning to read, most people would justly tell you to fuck off and say those people that thought they could own other human beings based solely on the color of their skin should be condemned for all eternity. Hell they might even say those Africans didn't kill enough of those evil whites

I'd say, you'll never achieve peace by attacking the other side, but you can only achieve peace if both sides want it. White Americans in the South during 1938 absolutely did not want peace with African Americans in much the same way Israelis don't want peace with Palestinians today. It's oversimplified but this feeling has always gone mostly one way. Black Americans have mostly just wanted peace, they don't want revenge. The same goes for Palestinians. It's truly amazing how hard it is/was for many white Americans and Israelis to learn and accept that fact.

  • Wait, so are there other politics instances? There isn't just the one?

I seem to get subs/instances for other communities that aren't from lemmy.world but only one politics community.

If there's another one that'd be great. I just realized the guy I reported is still commenting there while I was banned for 3 days. I kinda don't really feel like returning there if that's how they choose to run it.

  • Hell, one of those two didn't even win the fuckin electoral college and still became president.

Anyone remember how sleepy we all felt that day? Or maybe there was something really good to watch on TV or something. Idk, I'd just turned 10 so I couldn't even vote

  • Idk, it's honestly all a bit too confusing. I still don't get how this place works. I just use sync and even then some servers/instances or whatever will say I can't vote for certain posts/servers - idk, I'm assuming there's servers that get turned off at night or something

Have a recommendation? I only joined world because it seemed to have the least requirements for joining and was maybe more popular. I remember other instances requiring you answer a bunch of questions to join or something like that

  • What are you on?

I just recently got banned (I think, never got a response) from the politics sub for reporting another use that called me retarded. It's legit confusing. I literally reported them because it seemed out of pocket but apparently I said something offensive as well

I'm about ready to that go back to reddit, just using a web browser on my phone. This is place is asking users for a lot and people still don't seem to understand what a community is. All the pretty words people used when we migrated over was all BS apparently. It's weird since people clearly put in work but like, where are the mods/admins leading the community? Idk, maybe this stuff's just too hard for mostly socially-stunted people to manage (including myself, raised on video games and whatnot)
