  • I agree! We should look to what is acceptable in China to learn what we should deem acceptable in the US. We should do this despite everything we know and have learned about China. Who needs to actually understand what young people like about the app anyway? We should just make sure only the oldest and most decrepit among us weigh in on this issue

Bring back the comics code authority! Don't ever talk your kids about the media they consume! And for sure never learn from your history (granted, comics were an American thing, but Americans legit couldn't simply ask their kids what theyr were reading about and basically still can't)

/s (sorry I struggle with communication and sarcasm was easier)

  • You're makin great points!

I was actually just hearing about this Karla Ortiz copyright case. Sounds like it's going to shine a big ol spotlight on how these systems work and how exactly they copy other people's work.

I wonder if it could make things so prohibitively expensive it's no longer worth investing in for most companies. At the very least, it hopefully gives artists/content creators some kind of legal protection

  • Are those the only options? lol.

I just looked it up, and I'm honestly struggling to find a good source (Google really sucks nowadays), but it seems like there are very few North Koreans coming to/living in the US, like way less than even I would've thought

I stand by it being silly. If somebody doesn't know about the history/politics of the US and NK than sure it'd totally be fair to ask where a Korean is from since pretty much everyone should at least know there's two. lol. But, if you know the history and the current political situation, it's pretty silly - unless you're like at a war memorial or something.

It'd be like asking a brown latino in SoCal if they're from Guatemala. Like, sure, they could be, but 99 times out of 10 they'll be Mexican, based on so much available context.

One last thing. I hope you don't think what I'm saying is akin to prejudice or something. If it is let me know and I'll address that specifically. Definitely not saying to judge people before you've met them

  • I know y'all are trying to be open minded, so first off, you're doing great! That said, you're doing so well it's kind of at risk of being opened so wide your brain might fall out

Seriously though, I would absolutely think someone was... being silly (to put it nicely) if they asked which Korea an American was from (this for sure wouldn't apply to an 8 year old tho)

  • Thanks. That makes sense

Who would be Enron in this scenario? I'm thinking of openai or Nvidia but can't imagine they're at risk of much. The game seems far more rigged in favor of corpos than 20 yrs ago. Can't imagine how they could ever fall off at this point. Or, say a company like Netflix which I'm is using tons of algorithms...

Wait a min. Isn't AI now used as a catch all for any and all tech laymen don't understand? Do you specifically mean llamas are being overhyped (had to leave the autocorrect version of LLMs)?

Sorry, if I'm slow to the anti-AI party. It's been hard figuring out what's sensationalism, what's contrarianism, and what's legit nowadays (or maybe I'm just getting dumber :D)

  • And I'm picking most of them out!

...unless I'm with a pretty girl.. and I have a chance... or I'm in literally any other kind of social setting where I might feel uncomfortable and uncool

That said, I finally had a chance to try White Castle this year and purposely ate a couple sliders the way they came. Not bad. Oniony as hell, but I kinda get it. They were so well cooked it was almost like a sauce

  • I don't think that's right. My understanding is GARM was a nonprofit org comprised of major companies that invest in advertisements

That said, I'm equally not too bummed about giant corps being annoyed/forced to spend monies especially since I don't think this means they have to suddenly advertise on twitters or whatever now. Of course that won't stop musk from calling it a win regardless

  • No, I agree the enshitifcation is real. I guess part of that is it makes me feel crazy enough to doubt myself

It's like, I know the internet was for sure better before, but you know what if maybe the 10,000th seemingly unnecessary change that YouTube makes that piss me off is actually a pretty ok or even great thing and I'm all against it like boomers were with computers or how they are now with clean energy or how they are with whatever they're cranky about any given day?

I guess keeping in mind their goal is to squeeze us dry and profit til infinity, it's clear these apps will just get as shitty as we'll put up with

  • You're definitely not wrong that hurting profits is good leverage. It might actually be the best tool we have

I don't remember where I heard it recently, but we really need to bring back the slogan "no taxation without representation"

Millennials barely have representation and gen z has maybe one representative. The US was legit founded by mostly young people. It's nuts to see the contrast to today. It's not even exaggerating to say this nation hates it's younger citizens

    Edit: grammars
