  • It's impossible to tell if that's an indictment of the people's attitude or the "healthcare" system. Probably both. This country sucks rotten ass sometimes.

  • Ace Ventura was 1994 though 👴🏻But I also miss the early aughts. Good times.

This scene in particular always cracked me up. I love how Carrey would just randomly break into animal-like behavior.

  • On the bright side, this means he always has something to lose :)

  • It's the neutered males that we should be afraid of.

  • These answers are all really fun but I didn't see anyone point out one thing: why should we assume that our creators' "computer" architecture is anything remotely similar to our technology? I'm thinking of something like SETI—We can't just assume that all other life is carbon-based (though evidently it's a pretty good criterion). The simulation could be running on some kind of dark matter machine or some other exotic material that we don't even know about.

Personally I don't subscribe to the simulation theory. But if it were true, why would the system have any kind of limitation? I feel like if it can simulate everything from galactic superclusters down to strings vibrating in Planck Time, there are effectively no limits.

Then again, infinity is quite a monster, so what do I know?

  • But aren't billionaires completely sick in the head? I'd be careful with a claim like that

  • Oh definitely, I wasn't trying to imply that. Just wanted to put in my two cents. As a Texan I want nothing more than to watch Abbott and Costello Cruz (and Paxton, among countless others) get their comeuppance, but that will inevitably hurt innocent people, whether through side effects or spiteful retaliation.

I'd probably be cheering on whatever pain the GOP feels, before realizing I should be biting my nails and planning my exit strategy lol.

It would be great if there was some federal assistance, as Dkarma mentioned. Helping good people while accelerating the brain drain 😄

  • Innocent person here. Not only would it be guaranteed to harm us, but IMO completely "other"ing even one entire state would be disastrous.

I'm no geopolitical expert, but I've heard the argument (and I tend to agree) that isolating an entire group of people and treating them all equally badly is a very effective way to allow terrorism to spread. Think about the decades-long "war on terror" and what little it actually accomplished.

Consider how many gun-toting military fetishists there are in, say, Texas. Then remember that "Y'all Qaeda" isn't just a meme. These people are already mouth-foaming rabid when their conversation space is diluted with rational thought from more sensible people. Imagine sealing their echo chamber for them.

Obviously I don't know what the best solution is, because compassion doesn't work (except maybe on a one-to-one level, but who wants to talk to millions of nutjobs?), and antagonism will only bring us further down as a nation.

  • don’t feel they are getting a voice

Oh how I wish there was a violin small enough for these fucking scumbags. The Planck Length is still too big.

  • And many of them need to cheat in an already broken system to achieve the first one

  • I can see their reasoning for it. Lithium Ion batteries inherently carry a fire risk, I've always heard. So unless they made the batteries bulletproof it's possible a fall could end up puncturing/cracking one and starting a wildfire. Didn't consider this until you mentioned the bans. 👍

  • The article mentioned that someone spotted her with a (I assume commercial) drone. This makes me wonder if future search and rescue operations could include an array of drones flying in a wide formation, sweeping across a large grid. They could even have thermal imaging cameras on board, which in winter weather should be magnitudes more helpful.

If something like this technique has been employed already I would love to read about it. Not sure I've heard of it before.

  • Seconded. I taught two of my cats that they can be comfy up there, and one of them will jump up at the first opportunity when I'm tying my shoes or something else that has me kneeling/sitting.

The claws don't hurt too much—she hasn't botched an attempt ...yet—but I still yelp because it does scare the shit out of me every time lmao. I don't even attempt doing anything that could scare her, and instead go straight to my bed and carefully lower myself until she reluctantly disembarks.

    BTW cute cat, OP :)

  • Curious, where are you from? I like it when people from other countries use y'all, especially when the apostrophe is in the right place 🙂

  • Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm so tired of this system.

  • 😬 I'm Texan, born and raised, and unfortunately still living in Texas. No personal offense taken btw. Love the place, hate (some of) the people.

  • I think you meant "secede" but this works too and it's really goddamn funny

  • We oughta put you in Tall Jail for your crimes! You should have at least given him the window seat so he could enjoy the view haha
