  • I don't dispute her lead findings, but her statement about Hydroxyapatite shows she's willing to give comment on things she knows nothing about.

Hydroxyapatite is extracted from cow bone and added because it allegedly helps teeth absorb calcium, though Rubin said she doubts it does.

Hydroxyapatite is used as an alternative to flouride, as it's able to attach to the enamal and act as a barrier similar to how flouride does.

Research has shown it's less effective than flouride overall (it can't withstand as low a pH/acidity before dissolving), but it's not added to increase calcium absorption, like she claims.

  • Collective action on a wide scale far outpaces what Elon could do, and it's not as though he would increase his personal consumption to counteract what thousands of others do.

We need to keep in mind the overall picture, and not let other people continuing harmful practices to stop us from trying to reduce ours. Otherwise nothing would ever get better.

"I'm not going to drive less or use a bicycle because the rich use jets."

"I'm not going to install balcony solar because the rich waste energy with factories and mansions."

"I'm not going to consume less because the rich consume more than me."

These mindsets stifle positive change that can genuinely make a difference, especially when we are so short on time.

Also, there are now extremely good plant based red meat alternatives like Quorn, Impossible, or on a budget, Seitan. All of which allow us to continue to use our favorite meat based recipes without contributing to climate change (and lower bowel cancer risks :D), letting us give elon the finger without sacrificing anything.

  • In the case of Quorn, it's mainly Mycroprotein, a type of fungus that naturally grows into a meat-y like texture and has a neutral flavor that absorbs spices or vegan stocks really well. They do use a little egg whites as a binder, making it vegetarian, not vegan (unfortunate), but it doesn't really have any nasty additives. It's basically a fancy mushroom.

Impossible Beef is definitely more processed, but there's nothing in the ingredients list that stands out as particularly bad to me:

Ingredients: Water, Soy Protein Concentrate, Sunflower Oil, Coconut Oil, 2% Or Less Of: Natural Flavors, Methylcellulose, Cultured Dextrose, Food Starch Modified, Yeast Extract, Dextrose, Soy Leghemoglobin, Salt, Vitamin E (Tocopherols), L-Tryptophan, Soy Protein Isolate,

    Vitamins and Minerals: Zinc, Vitamins (B3, B1, B6, B2, and B12)

  • It's easier to switch people to plant based meats than it is to cut out meat-like foods entirely and potentially abandon their cherished family or cultural recipes that involve meat.

It's all plants in the end, after all, with all the climate emission and health benefits that brings :)

  • Never been a better time to try meat alternatives like Quorn or Impossible, which likely will be far less risky compared to unregulated Upton Sinclair meat 2.0.

Especially Quorn, which is made in Ireland and thus has to pass EU safety inspections.

  • Thrift stores almost always have desk or standing lamps. Combined with cheap, warm colored low wattage LED bulbs (25w equivalent or lower), they add wonderful ambiance without breaking the bank.

  • GIMP with the PhotoGIMP overhaul and Resynthasizer plugin (content aware fill) is pretty darn solid. Not perfect, but a massive upgrade from stock gimp.

  • Just want to chime in that a Krita developer has been working on a complete text tool overhaul from the ground up for the past 5 years or so, and it is just about ready to be pushed into the beta versions, so that pain point should be resolved soon, thankfully.

  • I hadn't heard of Jami, but that looks excellent, cheers for sharing!

  • Unfortunately it does not currently support audio sharing, but I'd recommend keeping an eye on Bananas Screen Sharing, as it may support it soon, from what I've seen in their Discord discussions.

  • You can play the game here on Archive.org, or you can download a copy from that page and play it in DOSBox Staging.

Here's all the physical documentation you'll need, such as the short story, how to play manual, and an in-world map (you'll have to draw your own, but it'll give you a rough idea of the land. If you find map making tedious, you could use a map someone else made).

Lastly, you'll need this interactive copy protection wheel when it prompts you for a combination in game, right before entering a simulation.

    Good luck! :D

  • A Mind Forever Voyaging, by Infocom.

It's an old text adventure from the 80's with a particularly cool and oddly relevant concept: You take the role of an AI that's been meticulously raised in a simulation to truly become a general intelligence. The reason this project was undertaken was to eventually send you, the AI, into other simulations based in the near future to test the outcomes of various political policies of the new republican government, record your interactions, and report back to the engineers who created you.

The game's designer said that he created the game in response to the despair he felt from Ronald Reagan being elected.

I haven't gotten super far in it, but it has an incredibly well written short story in the manual that details all the events leading up to the start of the game, and so far the game itself is unlike anything else I've ever played.

  • There isn't for me. Does it go away if you click the CC button at the bottom right?

  • Is it truly the guy who can take on the trump empire?

No single person takes on anything. The only reason why it seems that way is because the history books generally point to a particular person as being responsible for some big change in society, but people like that are only able to exist because there's hundreds of thousands of people who's names you'll never know put in the work to make it possible for people like Bernie, or MLK, or whomever to be the face those movements.
