The only surprising thing is that it took this long.

I have a question about this and I hope I’m able to ask it correctly the way it’s sitting in my head.

I know throughout history there have been strongmen who come to power, promise the world, and don’t deliver.

I also know about propaganda and its role in the above scenario.

My question is - if these images are seen by enough people who truly believe what they say - and they’re poor, maybe older, not in a great place overall, etc, and they voted Trump because they believe this…shit….what happens when they don’t deliver?

If they’re expecting homes and help and a magic, simple solution to all of their problems that never delivers, what happens not only to them psychologically, but also what bigger impact will their reactions have on the country as a whole?

In the US, I’m not so optimistic we’ll have that moment given the past 8 or so years. There will never be a realization that the Emperor has no clothes but the help will still never arrive. How long can that be sustained, and what happens when it can’t?

I hope that made sense and I apologize if it doesn’t.

He was bragging about the stainless steel being made to withstand bullets and we do live in a large city in the US in a state with basically no gun control, so I told him I could potentially see that coming in useful during rush hour on the freeways.

He had a story for why it was shaped the way it was, the windows are angled at the most aerodynamically possible angle because that’s important for a car that will probably spend 50% of its life stuck at a red light.

He’s obviously drank the kool aid. When I got back to the office I told my current coworkers, and a couple of interns said that car is super dangerous because it basically has no crumple zones. Then they pulled up some YT videos showing tests proving it.

The best part? We’re all engineers. The interns knew about the crumple zone thing. The senior Elon fanboy was just impressed with the window angle and bulletproof doors. I didn’t ask who he voted for, but I can guess.

I ran into a former coworker (we still work at the same place, just different groups now) at a work thing recently and he told me I had to see his new car.

It was this. I told him it was ugly. He tried to show me all the bells and whistles. I told him I was glad he liked it, but it was still ugly.

He said yeah…that’s what my wife says too. She hates it.

So I agree that this is awful, and our family is most definitely the result of immigrants coming here due to persecution in the country they were in.

But my MAGA family’s response to that? They were “legal” at the time (1700’s). These immigrants are coming here illegally.

Never mind that ~ 100 years ago my grandparents were punished at school (beaten) for speaking their native language there - because they made that illegal, too.

But they’re still the “speak English this is murica” MAGA types. But this time it’s different. They do not see the hypocrisy. They do not care. They just hate brown and black people.

This is the correct answer.

I’m glad I went once, but agree and am ok with not going back. Milos is 1000x better imo.

This happened to me before, years ago before the Dark Times.

I don’t recall which sub banned me for posting where, but it’s been a thing for awhile. In my case, I messaged one of the mods of the sub that banned me, explained that I was doing something similar & not a member of that sub, and they unbanned me.

So Peter Thiel then? Cool cool.

Cat. My pet cat. It wasn’t her fault, the window was open on the sill she was sitting on and abruptly closed on its own, on her paw.

So she understandably freaked out. When I ran to open it, she bit me on the finger.

Long story short, I went to a couple of Urgent Care centers before the ER. My mom had been told that I was allergic to penicillin when I was a child, so I told the medical staff this. After a couple of days, whatever else they were giving me wasn’t working and I woke up with red streaks going up my arm and my finger swollen to over twice its size.

Went to the ER. They said if I didn’t have penicillin, I could lose my finger. They also said it was common back in the day to mistake a certain reaction to it as being allergic, so maybe I wasn’t allergic. But they monitored me closely just in case.

Penicillin FTW. Not allergic. Spent 2 days in the hospital getting a constant IV drip of this modern medicinal miracle. Still have all 8 fingers and 2 thumbs.
