  • "Why do you guys simply believe things should get better?"

That is how I read this. More power, more efficiency, better tech is not a bad thing to want.

Just because you want to hold on to a 5 year old phone doesn't mean someone else doesn't at least want to see efficiency in our pockets get better for the value we spend on them.

Imagine if someone said, I have dial up internet. Why are you guys constantly wanting faster Internet speeds.

It's okay to want things to get better. You should not have the mentality of, "it's just good enough."

  • I cringed when I thought about how insecure this user's device is.

  • And this is why Lemmy is absolutely less about "techy people who know security" and more about people who just want everything to be free for some damn reason.

  • Have those lines died?

I haven't heard of anyone doing this in a long time.

  • I hate this fucking mentality. It almost always sounds like, "If you don't like it then you can just leave."

Which is usually not a solution.

  • As an Android user. People I think forget how much headphones with cords sucked to.

Skull candies were expensive, broke, and sounded like shit.

Did no one else have headphones get yanked out of your heads bent and worn out. Cords get frayed, have them get lost or stolen. It was also just nother tangled cord that I had do deal with.

I might be a rarity here and you are entitled to feel how you feel but God I look back and think about how badly I fucking don't miss the headphones jack and all the shitty headphones brands trying to make a buck.

There are cheap and affordable shitty sounding Bluetooth earbuds and good ones these days at an affordable cost now. Just. Move. On.

  • 🙄, Android phones have moved the same direction.

It's time to move on guys. They are gone and IMO fuck cords especially ones I couldn't keep in my ears because I kept getting them yanked out.

  • I second this. Lemmy is fully of "techy people" that think the only way to be "techy" is the way they define it without realizing if you aren't universally adept or open then you are curating your content to a point you are part of the "sheep" you claim not to be a part of.

If you like anything you pay for then you are wrong. If you still use Windows you are wrong. You need to abandon everything Google and Apple but still buy a Google product and run a degooglefied version of the product. So give the company you hate your money but not your data. Makes perfect sense.

It's either Linux or the highway but not everyone wants to use a terminal to use Mullvad or Tor every time you want to access the web to shop for a pair of shoes. Despite the fact you can write a script that still requires you to use a terminal to run Tor or what ever.

Not everyone wants Torrent speeds to pirate that piece of Microsoft software or movie. Some of us want to be, "normies" and just buy and use things that work without all the work that is unnecessary in our every day lives. We want to go to work, make money, spend time around people and things we love.

Yes, we get it we are the reason corporations and capitalism exist but I don't see your FOSS downloads and open source software slowing that way down. We don't need online tech heros who can prove you can free yourself. We need activists and people like that running got local politics and leadership helping actually put a stop to being taken advantage of.

Posting something about Unity enraging game companies is something anyone can do. But shoving a community off that you should be respectfully educating rather than shunning just because someone didn't want to pirate a movie and instead watch it on a Windows machine through Linux isn't or doesn't change anything.

I am no longer on Reddit but Lemmy is fully of tech people who also often have 0 fucking clue what they are talking about. Which is quite ironic.

  • "They don't make them like they used to."

Yeah dad, you are right. You are far less likely to die.

  • "And you pay for everything you do."

I dunno I don't feel like this applies to just Windows or Mac when you consider Red Hat's acquisition. Windows is popular because of the powerful tools it provides to manage businesses and it goes it well.

Shit on Microsoft all you want but the systems work well for businesses. I would charge others too if my product was popular and did what others needed it to do.

Linux isn't immune to be used to being made to make money and I really think the Linux community forgets that money talks. Get it in enough businesses and their is potential for someone to charge.

  • Linux skills

    Windows skills

    OSX Skills

Can all often be requirements of a job.

I just want to throw it out there that you can use any of these products and learn a terminal. Often times Mac does better with photo editing and programming in terms of handling the load balance.

Knowing one or the other doesn't make you any better than the rest.

  • Aren't some of the more profitable and secure services created by those trained to break security?

  • An easy barrier of entry isn't always the issue at hand. I think what the user is saying, hate Google or not, you are at the very least safe to some degree. A lot of people don't realize that VPNS are just ways of manipulating where your data goes and who sees it and that VPNs can be abused as services even if they aren't Google.

Those same services can sell your data just the same as Google. Let's not forget that the "mega corp" everyone loves to hate is the reason you have Android competing against iOS which is part of another mega corp. People on Lemmy should get the fuck off their high horses.

  • You rolled a 6. This is a failed roll.

You feel slightly uneasy as if power is being drawn to you. You begin to become more attractive. Suddenly, incels are messaging you. Trying to convince you that they are better than other men. This situation is getting out of hand. You wonder why they are all neckbeards. Where is all this "chivalry" coming from. Why are there so many fedoras in the profile pictures. The overwhelming thought of all things wrong with these men begin to weigh on you... What if... No you couldn't do that... What if you just blocked them? Would that be possible? According to Elon Musk you shouldn't be able to but then again he also seems like an incel.

    1. You block them.
    2. You wish to learn more about DnD and dice rolls.
    3. Wait a minute, who are you? The voice narrating your thoughts?
    4. Oh shit, I left the oven on!
  • It is a great podcast and I think Jack Rysider from Darknet Diaries has recommended their podcast before.

It's more professional, IMO, and informative. It also just lays the facts out and the problems in a pretty unbiased way. More like, here is an issue on this topic with or without this thing or related to this thing and here is why you should be aware of it.

  • Darknet Diaries is easily my favorite but if I want something fictional I go with No Sleep.

Click Here is a good one. More like journalism and news on an information security level.

    I also like Hacking Humans.

Crime Junkie is a good one as well.

I love MKBHD's podcast as well. Those guys just get me laughing as they have become less professional and more personal on screen as time has gone on.

  • Oh no your lack of belief in my actractiveness to you has made me attracted to you.

    What do you do?

    1. Roll a d20 this is a DnD scenario now.
    2. Ew, well I am not attracted to you, internet stranger.
    3. Wait, what if you were a woman? That would be less icky.
    4. Ugh comments like this prove humanity has gone backward.

I am bored all of these are acceptable answers...

  • My family has 3 cats, my buddy and I have 2 Bengals, and my girlfriend has 1 large dumb boi.

While the house is stinky in the years I have lived on this planet. I have never had the issue you have described and I would never describe any of the cats I know and love as vermin.

  • Man? A lot of these comments are so damn negative.

For the record I am one of the few Pixel phone users that has had every Pixel but the 5 and I wouldn't switch and don't plan on switching.

I have just about everyone Google products in my home from Nest Hubs to Nest homes, Pixel buds, Pixelbook, etc.

  • That's 12.50 cents a month. You could have literally cancelled at any time.
