The genetic science is cool, the consequences of the science are non-existent. The consequences of using them as bio-engineering agents is obviously an open question, but a distraction at this point of time since governments around the world have no appetite for environmental science that doesn't directly make someone money.

As for "what happens next," it either becomes commercially viable and wolly mammoths are seen as mundane and numerous in the next few decades, or it becomes a one-off like Dolly the sheep and the herd population of woolly mammoths stays <10 plus maybe a few zoos.

Who said anything about doing nothing? There is a large amount you can do beside supporting genocide "because the world is complex", and doing nothing. One of those things is not voting for the parties that support genocide as a bare minimum.

Maybe i'm in the minority here, but inviting republicans from the bush years to speak at the DNC isn't actually that reassuring to me if I care about stopping genocide, or think that the US foreign policy as a whole is bad and wrong.

Hell I'd go so far as to say if you invite a ghoul like Mike Pence to speak at your convention, you obviously don't give a shit about LBG issues at all, and are only using them as a shied so that no one can criticize your absolute inaction over the past 50 years on all social issues.

"you guys" i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that racists don't actually exist on lemmy. Leftist understand that "race" was a construct used to divide people based on criteria that aren't threatening to the status quo. In the US, race exist to make sure that people don't question the capitalists. In China is exist to make sure people don't question whatever the inherent power structure that existed at the time "ethnic racism" was defined.

He was intensely destructive to the monied interests that back both parties, and it was only by exploiting a removed in the armor of our two-party system that he ever was elected in the first place. If he were running under DNC primary rules, the primary system would have bernied him demoting him to not much more then a footnote in history. But the GOP primary system was a bit too democratic, it actually allowed outsider candidates to build momentum and even become the candidate.

I haven't looked much inside the GOP system, but I suspect that a bunch of quiet changes have taken place, similar to the changes Hillary made after she lost in 2008.

Current US demand as of 20:30CST is ~560,000 Megawatt Hours. This facility can provide 8500megawatt hours over 100hours, or 85Megawatts/hr or about .015% of US electricity demand in an hour. At a cost of around ~$150million, that means to have enough storage for 10% of US demand, you would need ~670 of these facilities, or about $100 Billion.

I guess having a thick provisioned VM image on your laptop means that you are hiding something. Again if the evil government you are trying to hide something from doesn't need reasonableness as a reason to detain you, then who cares? No matter what you do you are rolling the dice every time you interact with them.

Which is of course similar to the US today, so if I needed to hide something from them I'd make sure that once i'm legally compelled to give my password they at the very least wouldn't have what they are looking for, since there is no way I could prove I didn't have it anyway.
